- What size of tournament does the software support?
The software has no limits (other than available memory) on the number of entries or events in
a tournament. The minimum recommended hardware is a Pentium 500 with 32MB RAM. The larger the
tournament, the faster you'll want the machine to be.
- How many tournaments have used this software?
The software has been used by over 4000 tournaments in 44 states since its inception
in 1983. Last season (2009-10), saw over 850 tournaments use either the
website registration and/or tabulation software. The Joy of Tournaments website registration
is utilized by many prestigious tournaments including Harvard University, Barkley Forum,
The Glenbrooks, Stanford, and James Logan. In 2009-10, the website was used for state
championship tournaments in 21 states (Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, California, Georgia,
Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Pennsylvania,
South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.) The Joy
of Tournaments also provides registration for the Phi Rho Pi National Tournament, the
National Forensic League National Tournament, and for the Junior Forensic League National
Tournament.
- Where did the name "The Joy of Tournaments" come from?
My high school speech coach was Joy Morton. She's had a tremendous influence
over the development of this software and was the first coach to give me a
shot at using the software. Until her retirement in 2004, she hosted a tournament
named the Bobsled Classic in January of each year. In 2007 I assisted with
the 25th Bobsled Classic to use the software. We've come a long way together.
The software is named in her honor. Thanks Morton!
