2018 Rock Springs
November 2nd and 3rd
The Rock Springs High School Speech and Debate Team welcomes you to our Tiger Classic November 2nd and 3rd at Rock Springs High School. We offer a novice/varsity tournament, and we're giving out lots of tall, shiny trophies, so we hope you come!
* Registration opens October 2nd. Changes may be made to entries until 30 minutes before the tournament begins.
*We are offering ALL events (including impromptu) for both novice and varsity. Novice and varsity Congress are combined for preliminary sessions; assuming adequate numbers, novice congress competitors will break into their very own super congress. (Email Stephanie with novice congress names so we know who they are!)
*We are hosting a Big Questions event! Because we are receiving a grant to host BQ, we are not charging a fee for entry in this event. Students may enter as a team of 2 or maverick - please see the "Big Questions" tab for more info.
*The LD topic for both varsity and novice will be the November/December NSDA topic: Resolved: In a democracy, the public’s right to know ought to be valued above the right to privacy of candidates for public office..
*The PF topic for both varsity and novice will be the November/December NSDA topic:
Resolved: The United States federal government should impose price controls on the pharmaceutical industry
---We will keep the format for PF the same (not try any of the proposed changes) so novices can experience the way it was, and varsity can get a refresher before (we assume) other tournaments provide opportunities to try the new format.
***Please see the "Novice CX" tab for novice case list
* Competition starts on Friday, November 2nd at 3:15pm.
* We are offering a Superburrito! dinner on Friday night, with a giant made-to-order burrito, chips and salsa, dessert and drink for $7 each. Saturday for lunch we'll have a simiarly delicious lunch and a drink for $6 each. Please email a headcount to Stephanie (firstname.lastname@example.org) for meal orders by 5pm Monday, October 29th. Concessions will also be available.
* You are encouraged to bring judges with you! Please enter judges in the "judge" tab when you enter - let us know which varsity are able to judge novice rounds (or send them to judging table as they are available).
First and second place sweepstakes trophies will be awarded in 4A, 3A, 1A/2A.
First through third place (semifinals in debate) in each event, varsity and novice divisions, will receive trophies.
Fourth through sixth place finishers will receive ribbons.
We will award Something Fun to the top speaker in each debate event. Not sure what, exactly, as we forgot to include speaker awards with our trophy order.
The Triple Threat Award - we give very tall, shiny "individual sweepstakes" aka "triple threat" trophies to the top SIX novice and top SIX varsity competitors who enter at least three events and score the most points in preliminary rounds. (If an individual enters more than three events, we will use the points from that person's best three events.)
Our priority is to run a positive, punctual tournament, and we are excited to host you!
