UIL Invitational “A” Tests
The Willis High School UIL Academic team would like to invite you to join us for the WHS Invitational practice meet. We will be using Set “A” materials. We hope to accommodate all who wish to attend. Early entries are gladly accepted. Please include all contact information, such as phone numbers and email addresses.

Events: All coaches are encouraged to help with judging and grading for their events. Please send names and subject area preferences for those willing to test and grade.
Ready Writing and Journalism events: If you enter any journalism events or Ready Writing, your school must provide a qualified judge or pay a $100 fee so judges can be hired. The goal of the tournament is to provide good judge's comments and have a real learning experience at our contests, so a large panel of judges are important. Judge's names need to be entered on www.thejoyoftournaments.com when registering, or the fee will be added to your total due.
Computers may be available depending on the number of entries. Schools may also set-up their own laptops and printers, if space allows, in the testing room. Per UIL rules, dictionaries and thesauruses may be used. Each school must provide their own. Students may not share reference materials during a contest.
Speech Events: Please bring one judge for either poetry, prose or extemp. We will secure judges for these events, but by each team providing judges, we will have a bigger pool to pull from. Provide the name and judging preference of your judges at registration.
Computer Applications: Students must provide their own laptop, printer, software, hardware, paper and necessary cords and cables. One grader for each school in this event must be present at grading.
Drops: Drops made after the registration deadline will result in loss of entry fees. Please report any speaking event drops and/or changes as soon as possible.
Hospitality: There will be breakfast and lunch items available in the food lab for coaches, judges, and bus drivers. Tournament attendees always say we have one of the best hospitality rooms around. Come check us out!
Students: Breakfast food, lunch food, snacks and beverages will be sold in the snack bar for the students. There are no eateries within walking distance of the school.
Awards: Ribbons will be awarded for the top six places. A special award will be given to the first and second place schools based on the UIL point system. Awards will be handed out throughout the day as results are announced. Unclaimed awards and all test papers will be in a box designated for each school in the tab room.
Directions: Willis High School is located along the I-45 corridor north of Conroe and south of Huntsville between I-45 and Hwy. 75. Heading north from Houston, exit FM 830 (Seven Coves Drive) #92 and turn right. We are located about a quarter mile east of I-45 on the north side of FM 830. Parking is available in the gymnasium parking lot west of the school.
$10.00 per student per event. (Ex. 1 student entering 3 events = $30.00)
Guidelines for Tournament:
« We will follow the UIL conflict schedule, and all UIL rules will apply throughout the contest.
« Coaches may register beginning at 7:00 a.m. Students are asked to remain in the cafeteria until time for their contest.
« All announced results are final. Any questions concerning any contest must be raised during the verification time and directed to the tournament director.
« The WHS campus is tobacco and drug free. Food and drinks are to remain in the cafeteria area. Please clean up after yourselves.
« Announcements of winners and presentation of awards will occur in the cafeteria following verification of each event. Names of the winners will also be posted in the cafeteria area.
