We are excited to invite you to compete at Kingwood High School's TFA Invitational Qualifying Tournament on January 17-18, 2020. Our tournament will host all TFA qualifying events, as well as poetry, prose, and impromptu. To aim our goal of supporting beginning performers and debaters, novice divisions will be offered. We will also host all debate divisions including World Schools Debate.
We know that you have a choice of where to spend your competition weekend. We have organized our schedule to conveniently host individual events on Friday and debate events on Saturday. We hope that you'll join us at Kingwood on this three-day weekend for good food, a positive student-centered environment, and an efficient tournament.
Some of our judges will be members of the community and school district. The volunteer judges we recruit are provided with a training course prior to the the tournament. World Schools judges will also receive individualized training. In order to hire qualified contract judges, we charge a 25% judging fee based on the total amount of entries. We feel this method levels the burden between smaller and larger sqauds while still ensuring qualified and experienced contract judges can be hired. Experienced judges will be used for advancing rounds of debate and outrounds of TFA individual events that will be paneled. To assist with providing students valuable feedback from which to grow, we require schools to submit a qualified school judge/coach who is available on stand-by for the duration of the school's rounds plus one round. Schools will face an additional $150 fee if no school judge is listed or if ballots are abandoned or rejected.
Initial entries will be set as of Monday, January 13th at 4:00 PM. At this time, the coach/school judge must also be listed on the judge registration page. Any drops made after 8 AM on Wednesday, January 15th will forfeit the initial event fee. Drops on the day of the tournament will forfeit the initial entry fee and incur an additional drop fee equal to the event fee. [Ex: An Extemp drop after 8 AM on January 15th will be charged $20. An Extemp drop on the day of the tournament will be charged $40.] Any changes to entries past 8 AM on Wednesday, January 15th will need to be submitted via email to Sara.Ruffin@humbleisd.net
DROP FEES WILL BE COLLECTED and BILLED to schools dropping day of competition.
TOPICS and WSD Motions will be listed on the Information Page.
