Dear UIL Coordinators/Sponsors:
Crosby High School is pleased to announce that we will be holding our 4rd Annual UIL Academic Invitational on Saturday, January 11, 2020 on the Crosby High School campus in Crosby, Texas. EVENTS: We are offering all events except CX, LD, Informative and Persuasive Speaking. Computer Science will be a written test only. We will follow rules as stated in the C&CR and we will be using Set A of the UIL Practice Materials.
TIME SCHEDULE: A Time Schedule of Events is attached. Please check this schedule carefully. The schedule has been determined by the UIL Conflict Pattern and by our facilities. Students will not be allowed to cross-enter since we are determined to run on time and will NOT hold contest for students who are late.
DEADLINES: Entry deadline is Monday, January 6, 2020.
FEES & LIMITS: All contest are unlimited for the number of entries a school can have. However, all journalism events and ready writing will have a cap of 40 competitors. Computers will be available for journalism events and ready writing. Entry fees will be $10 per event per student.
DROPS: Drops after 3:30 pm on Wednesday, January 8th will forfeit the entry fee. Please advise us of drops as soon as possible.
SUBSTITUTIONS: Substitutions may be made on the day of the contest. It is the responsibility of the contestant to make the director of that specific contest aware of the substitution. If contestants are added, present the contest director with your add slip indicating that you have been added to the contest. Add slips may be obtained at the registration table.
FOOD AND SERVICES: We will be providing a concession stand in our commons area where contestants can purchase a variety of hot foods, snacks and drinks. A hot meal for the coaches and bus drivers will be provided in the hospitality room.
FACILITIES: Contests will be held in the main high school building. The cafeteria and commons area will be available for students who have finished and/or are in between contests. Please do not allow students to roam the building.
RESULTS AND AWARDS: Results and awards will be announced in the cafeteria as they become available. Medals are given for 1st thru 3rd place. Plaques will be provided for 1st place teams.
JUDGING AND GRADING: Judges will be provided by Crosby High School for all speaking events. Judges will by hired by Crosby High School to grade all Journalism and Ready Writing papers. All Computer Application teams and Spelling teams must provide a grader. If one is not provided, that school’s papers will NOT be graded and scored. In addition, all Computer Application contestants must provide their own laptop computers, printers, etc.
1. Vandalism of any sort will result in disqualification of the entire squad.
2. Please keep all food and drinks in the cafeteria/commons area.
3. We ask that you help keep the noise down in the cafeteria/commons area.
4. Crosby ISD will not be held responsible for damage, theft, loss of property or accidents.
