San Antonio, TX 78230
You and your students are cordially invited by the Central Texas NSDA to the
Novice Tournament to be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Basis San Antonio - Shavano Campus.
While this tournament is hosted by the Central Texas NSDA District, the tournament is not limited to only NSDA schools so -- COME ONE AND COME ALL!!
Let's have a fabulous fall festival of fun for our fantastic first-year class!
For the purpose of this tournament, a novice is defined as a student in their first year of high school competition. (Both members of a team must meet this requirement.)
Lincoln Douglas Debate and Public Forum Debate will debate the NSDA November/December Topics and the Novice Packet will be available prior to the tournament and should be used exclusively.
2019 November/December LD Topic:
Resolved: The United States ought to eliminate subsidies for fossil fuels.
2019 November/December PF Topic:
Resolved: The benefits of the United States federal government’s use of offensive cyber operations outweigh the harms.
2019-2020 Policy Topic:
Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially reduce Direct Commercial Sales and/or Foreign Military Sales of arms from the United States.
Congress: TFA docket, items 1-15
Colin Malinak, District Chair, and the District Committee are coordinating the tournament with Amy Kardos, our host at Basis-Shavano Park. All participating coaches and members of the District NSDA Committee will run the tournament. Judges will be advanced student members who have knowledge of events through competition themselves and have some training in judging and writing evaluations and critiques.
Students entered in individual events, duo, and duet acting may enter any two of these events and will participate in three rounds of each event selected. The top students based upon the three-round cumulative rank score and ratings total will receive "Outstanding Performer" awards in each individual event.
Students entered in CX/LD/PF Debate may enter only one debate event (no individual event entries are allowed) and will be guaranteed four rounds. Awards will be given based upon the cumulative records of the four debate rounds.
We will accept all entries in individual events, duo and duet until we arrive at our maximum limit based upon rooms. Entries will be processed in the order they are received. In CX/LD/PF Debate, a school may enter a maximum of four in each event. (Additional debate entries may be listed; however, notification of acceptance of any of those additional entries will occur Tuesday, November 12, 2019.)
