“SPEECH ON THE BEACH”
It’s a Swing!!!!!
Hosted by Del Mar College and San Jacinto College
Dear Director of Forensics:
On behalf of Del Mar College and San Jacinto College, I would like to extend a sincere invitation for you and your students to attend the Spring 2019 “Speech on the Beach” Tournament. The tournament will include all individual events IPDA and NPDA, and will be held on the Del Mar campus February 22 – 24, 2019.
The tournament hotel is the Emerald Beach Hotel located at 1102 South Shoreline, Corpus Christi, Texas 78401. They are holding rooms at a group rate of $89.99 per room per night plus city tax (9%=$9.09). This is an excellent rate considering that we are in Corpus Christi at the beginning of the Spring Break season. This rate includes a complimentary breakfast and free parking. PLEASE ASK FOR YOUR COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST BUFFET TICKETS WHEN YOU CHECK IN.
We are very excited about using this hotel. It sits directly on the beach and for those teams with free time on Friday during debate rounds or those who have time Saturday night, there is a nice game area for the students to use as well as a large indoor pool and hot tub in the event of inclement weather. For reservations, please call (361) 883-5731 and mention you are attending the Del Mar College “SOB” tournament. Texas schools should also bring your tax exempt number if you do not wish to pay state tax. Reservations must be made by February 14, 2019. I know this is a little early, but they will gladly take reservations past that date (I have been assured).
Please note, IPDA will follow Phi Rho Pi policy. No coach preparation/ team preparation or student judges allowed. NPDA prelim rounds will be preset.
ENTRIES: Entries will be registered through Joy of Tournaments. The website is www.joyoftournaments.com. There is no limit on the number of students a school may enter per event. Students may enter no more than three events per pattern. Students entered in multiple events are responsible for notifying their judges, and judges will not wait past the scheduled times for students who are cross-entered.
JUDGES: One judge can cover four (4) individual events slots per pattern for a total of 8 slots across the two patterns. Each debate judge covers two (2) debate teams. A very limited number of hired judges will be available for uncovered slots/teams.
The forensics program at Del Mar College has been preparing for what is sure to be a competitive, enjoyable, and educational tournament. We look forward to seeing you on February 22, 2019 for some outstanding competition.
