Mark your calendars now for one of the most exciting educational events of the 2018-2019 school year.
The first annual California High School Speech Association Middle School Speech and Debate State Championship Tournament will take place from May 17-19, 2019, at Leland High School. Middle school competitors in sixth through eighth grades will the exciting opportunity to meet and compete with other outstanding students from across the state at this premier event.
Consider these unique features:
1) The tournament will offer five preliminary rounds of debate and three preliminary rounds of speech; breaks will depend on entry.
2) Speech events offered include Declamation/Oral Interpretation, Original Oratory/Advocacy, Informative/Expository, Programmed Oral Interpretation/Thematic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Original Prose & Poetry, Extemporaneous, and Impromptu.
3) The unique events of SPAR, Creative Duo, and Storytelling will also be offered.
4) Debate events are Congress, Policy, Public Forum, and Lincoln Douglas.
This tournament is meant to be accessible to all who want to attend because reasonable entry fees and minimal judging requirements (High school students are welcome to judge). Additionally each contestant will receive a personalized certificate and a commemorative gift.
