We cordially invite you to our Evanston High School Speech and Debate Tournament to be held on Friday and Saturday, January 20-21, 2017 at Evanston High School.

Events

We will be offering the following events:

 

Pattern A Pattern B

Humor (HI)

Oratory (OO)

Poetry (PO)

Extemp (EX)

Impromptu (Imp)

Congress (CD)

Program Oral interp (POI)

 

Public Forum (PF)

Lincoln-Douglas (LD)

Cross Examination (CX)

Drama (DI)

Duo (DU)

Informative (IN)

 

In all HOPE pattern events, we will have three preliminary rounds, with an included 4th round in the D pattern.  Poetry competitors must use a manuscript.  Humor, Oratory, Drama, and Duo must be memorized.  Extemp will contain both international questions and national questions.

We will have an initial entry limit of 5 per event but will accept entries off the waiting lists as space allows. 

Fees

All individual events will be assessed a $10.00 fee per entry. Partner events will be assessed a $16.00 fee per entry.

Debate Resolutions

 Policy

 The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People’s Republic of China.


Lincoln-Douglas
We will be using the January/February 2017 topic 

Resolved: Public colleges and universities in the United States ought not restrict any constitutionally protected speech.

 

  

Public Forum
We will be using the January 2017 topic:  

Resolved: In order to better respond to international conflicts, the United States should significantly increase its military spending.

Ties in debate will be broken by power of opposition first, followed by speaker points.

 

  • All Extemporaneous Draws and Spontaneous Debate draws will be held in the library.

Doubling: 

Students may double or triple at their own risk.  I will instruct judges to wait up to five (5) minutes.  Students doubling in extemporaneous speaking may not receive complete prep time.

 

 

Congressional Debate will occur in the HOPE pattern per Wyoming Forensic State Rules and there will be three sessions and a Super Congress. Students will NOT be allowed to double in Congressional Debate and any other event in the HOPE pattern (for the integrity of the event)

 

 

 

Registration

 

Registration will open on December 21st , 2017, and will close at 12:00 am on January 22, 2017. 

Please register early, as entries will be limited. Once limits are reached, entrants will be wait-listed. We hope to accommodate all potential entrants, but space is limited.

Meals

We will be offering lunch on Saturday. Menus and prices will be posted soon!

Awards

Trophies will be awarded to the top three (3) finishers in each event.  Debate will receive 1st, 2nd, and ties for 3rd.  Sweepstakes trophies will be awarded to the first and second place teams in small  1/2A and 3A, 4A school categories.

Judges

Coaches may be asked to judge during the course of the tournament. More than likely, each coach will be judging one or two rounds. Please list accompanying judges on Joy of Tournaments..   It is the hope of the Evanston High School Forensics Staff and Team to have cards” indicating when each coach or accompanying judge will be scheduled.  Accompanying judges are VERY welcome.
