Greetings!!

The coaches and competitors of the CCHS Speech & Debate team cordially invite you to the 2012 Camel Classic tournament to be held January 27th and 28th.  This year’s tournament will provide excellent competition and a great variety of schools will be in attendance.

SCHEDULE

The 2012 Camel Schedule provides for four preliminary rounds in all events followed with semi’s and finals.  Campbell County High School North Campus will be hosting all scheduled events.  All rounds shall begin on Friday at 4:00 PM.  Please see the accompanying schedule.  We intend to have everyone on the road back home by 4:45 PM on Saturday. There will also be an informational coaches meeting at 3:30PM on Friday in the Auditorium.

EVENTS

The following events will be offered at this year’s tournament:  C-X debate, L-D debate(Jan./Feb. topic), Public Forum (Jan. topic), drama, duet, humor, oratory, poetry, extemporaneous and impromptu speaking.  Impromptu is a fun event in which competitors are given topics over a variety of subject matter.  Competitors in this event have seven minutes to use as they please (i.e. three minutes to prepare and four minutes to speak), but they must be finished within the seven-minute limit.  Individual Event’s competitors may participate in one or two events.

  • No tripling
  • CX debaters may not double
  • LD debaters may not double
  • PF debaters may double, but will need to attend debate first.  Rounds will proceed at the scheduled time
  • Extempers may not double in impromptu or debate

JUDGING

All coaches may be called upon for judging, so we ask that coaches remain in the lounge or auditorium until all ballots are out and the rounds are started.  Students are asked to quietly relax in the commons area between rounds and while finals are in progress

We would like to ask you to remind your students that most of the judges at the Camel Classic are experienced and trained.  We had a few complaints from judges concerning competitors asking to leave for doubling purposes when the competitor was not doubling.  The competitors need to be courteous to the judges/other competitors and remain in the room or face the possible reprimands from the judges.  Several of the judges asked tournament staff to check competitor’s doubling status prior to turning in his/her ballots.  Debate judges will be asked to begin the round on time.

REGISTRATION

Registration on Friday, Jan. 27th, will be in the CCHS auditorium from 12:30 P.M. -3:00 PM. Any drops/changes made after 12 PM on Monday, January 23 will be charged $10 per drop. We would appreciate it if you register during this time, so that any changes can be made and the tournament can start at the scheduled time of 4:00 PM. Packets and codes will be distributed during registration.  Please send in your preliminary registration information to me by January 21st.  The website will remain open for drops until 12PM on Monday January 23rd, please make changes to your registration prior to this time.  After this time, please call your changes in prior to your arrival at 307-399-1716.

ENTRIES & FEES

In the past we have been able to accommodate all entry requests.   If we are running short on rooms, we may need to ask you to restrict the number of entries per event.  Fees will be $7.00 for congress, drama, humor, poetry, impromptu, extemporaneous, LD, and oratory.  Fees will be $14.00 for C-X, Public Forum, and duet teams.  A $10 fee will be charged for each entry dropped at registration.  Any extra judges who could accompany your team would be extremely appreciated.  Please let us know the names of judges via email (kpark@ccsd.k12.wy.us), so we can schedule them for rounds.

LUNCH

As we are such a small team this year we will be unable to provide a lunch on Saturday. There will still be a hospitality room for judges and coaches.

We hope you will be joining us to make this tournament better than ever.

Sincerely,

Coaches:  Krys Park, Kari Berntson, Myles Bryndley, and Sarah Bessette
