Dear UIL Coordinators, Academic Sponsors, and Speech and Debate Coaches,
Van High School cordially invites you and your students to attend the 6th Annual Fire and Ice UIL Academic, Speech, and Debate Invitational Tournament on January 13-14, 2012.
In keeping with our commitment to a well-rounded academic and forensics education, we will offer students the opportunity to compete in every UIL academic, speech, and debate event, as well as major National Forensics League events.The Fire and Ice tournament is a Northeast Texas Debate Association qualifying tournament.Students from member schools who place in the top six in Poetry/Prose Interpretation, Informative/Persuasive Extemporaneous Speaking, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, or Cross-Examination Debate will qualify for the 2012 NTDA Championship Tournament.
For our academic events, we will be using independent testing material for every event so that your students can get a unique competitive experience as they gear up for the district meet.Additionally, the speech and debate portion of our tournament will feature three preliminary rounds and three elimination rounds of debate, two guaranteed rounds in public speaking and interpretation events, and two sessions of congressional debate.
We hope to see you at our tournament in January.We expect to have an extremely competitive and diverse invitational which should greatly help prepare your students for district competitions.We will do our best to accommodate every entry, but we recommend that interested schools submit their entries as soon as possible to guarantee your spot.Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
