THE 8TH ANNUAL
SPEECH AND DEBATE TOURNAMENT
 @
SAINT MARY'S HALL
TFA, NIETOC, and EXTEMP TOC QUALIFIER

October 27-28, 2017

Dear Speech and Debate Coaches and Sponsors,

On behalf of the Saint Mary's Hall Speech and Debate Program, Faculty, and Staff, we would like to cordially invite you to the Eighth Annual Speech and Debate Tournament at Saint Mary's Hall, October 27-28, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas.

Founded in 1879, Saint Mary's Hall is a college preparatory school rich in tradition and committed to academic excellence. Designed by famous southwest architect O'Neill Ford in 1968, Saint Mary's Hall's current home is a 60-acre campus in Northeast San Antonio. The campus is very conveniently located for traveling squads a mere 5 miles from San Antonio International Airport, with numerous hotels in immediate proximity to its campus.

Saint Mary's Hall's main objective in hosting this event is to create the best experience possible for all attending programs. Please know that your squad's entry fees will be utilized to provide the best possible judging pool and hospitality possible.

In lieu of trophies this year, we have made a commitment to donate the funds that would have been spent to the Hurricane Harvey relief effort. We, as coaches, believe this activity has the power to save lives and turn students into advocates. Along those lines, we have chosen to advocate with our tournament this year, and we invite students, coaches, adminstrators, and everyone you can reach to participate in this worthy cause. We will be giving out three school sweepstakes trophies and first place trophies for all events. Therefore, we are proud to share that we will be donating $1,000 to this noble cause.

We intend to offer all TFA qualifying events: Humorous and Dramatic Interpretation, Program of Oral Interpretation, Foreign and Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, Duet Acting, Duo Interpretation, Cross-Examination, Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, and Congressional Debates, as well as Oral Interpretation (Prose/Poetry, alternatively in-round).

This is our eighth year as a TFA Qualifier, and we are pleased to have been named a bid tournament for the 2018 NIETOC, as well as the Extemporaneous Speaking TOC.

We are excited to be allowing cross-entry in both categories of Extemporaneous Speaking again this year. Students will, theoretically, be able to finish a qualification for the Extemp TOC.

Also, we are pleased to offer the inagural Jennifer S. Parrish Memorial Award for Excellence in Forensics to the highest point-earning junior or senior nominated by his/her coach.

Entries will be taken on-line via this website.  Please, no mailed-in entries.

We look forward to seeing you and your students!
