Quitman High School UIL Invitational Meet
February 3-4, 2012
Dear UIL Coordinators/Coaches/Sponsors:
Quitman High School invites you to participate in a UIL Academic Invitational meet on Friday and Saturday, February 3-4, 2012. Please register at www.joyoftournaments.com. All UIL events including debate will be offered, and we will be using UIL Set B materials. Each school will be limited to four (4) entries per event with the following exceptions:
· Science, Calculator, Number Sense, and Math—limited to six (6) entries per event
· Ready Writing, Computer Applications, Journalism and Speaking events—limited to three (3) entries per event.
Also, due to a lack of space, Computer Applications will be limited to the first 24 entries. We will not hold a general assembly; rather, contestants should report to their contests at the scheduled time. This procedure will give us an earlier start for the day’s events.
NOTES ON EVENTS
Math/Science: Calculators may be used following all UIL rules.
Computer Science: Only multiple choice tests will be given. No calculators are allowed.
Computer Applications: Students are responsible for bringing computers, printers, CDs/flash drives, software, extension cords/power strips, and all other needed items. Entries will be limited to the first 24 contestants registered. Each school MUST provide a grader; if a school does not provide a grader, that school’s contestant(s) will be disqualified.
Speech Events: Coaches will judge in all preliminary and final rounds of speaking events. Judges will keep time in their rooms. Schools with drops in prose and poetry should check in at the auditorium before 8:00 A.M. Drops for extemporaneous speaking must be made before 10:30 A.M. in Room 51.
NTDA NOTE: Because Quitman High School is a member of the Northeast Texas Debate Association, this tournament is a qualifying tournament for the NTDA Championship Tournament. Students who place in the top six in CX and LD and who advance to finals in Informative, Persuasive, Prose, and Poetry will qualify for the NTDA Championships. Visit the website www.ntdachampionship.com for more information.
Judging Requirements: Schools are responsible for providing one judge for two CX teams, two judges for three CX teams, one judge for LD, and one for all other individual events. Schools must provide one qualified judge for Ready Writing and one qualified judge for each of the four (4) journalism contests. If a school does not provide a qualified grader, that school’s contestant(s) will be disqualified.
Entry deadlines and fees: Entries must be submitted by 3:30 P.M. on Monday, January 30. All drops must be made by 3:30 P.M. on Wednesday, Feb. 1. After that time, entry fees are forfeited. You may mail your check or bring it with you on the day of the meet.
ENTRY FEES:
CX Entries: $25/team
LD Entries: $15
Speech Events: $10
All Other Events: $8
AWARDS
Awards will be presented to the top six (6) winners in each event, to two (2) top teams in team competitions, and to overall Speech and Journalism teams. All schools will compete in one division.
Throughout the day, we will gather the day’s materials for each school. On the day of the meet, coordinators can take with them only speaking critique sheets and results sheets for all contests. All tests and extemporaneous speaking topics will be mailed later.
A concession stand will be available for students. Complementary food will be provided for all judges and coaches in Room 32. No food or drink may be taken to the classrooms or the library.
We hope to see you Friday and Saturday, February 3-4, 2012. If you have questions, please contact me at brownro@quitmanisd.net or 903-763-5000 ext. 154.
