UIL Academic Lobo Invitational
February 20, 2010
201 E. Tomlinson Pkwy, Texas75605
Longview
Dear UIL Coordinator/Sponsor:
Longview High School will host a UIL Academic tournament on February 20, 2010. We will use custom materials (Hexco, MRC, TMSCA, A+, ASW) for all academic events, and we will follow the UIL conflict pattern. We hope that this will provide everyone with some great practice during the main UIL season. Regrettably, we will only be offering exempt and not offering Debate at our springtime tournament.
EVENTS: Contest includes all UIL academic events, Poetry, and Prose Interpretation. We will award Sweepstakes titles based on a total of points from all events offered.
POETRY, PROSE, and EXTEMP INFO: (UPDATE: 02/11) Poetry and Prose contests will be regular UIL A and B selections. Readers must be prepared to show documentation in the contest room or they will be disqualified. Entry limits will be four per prose and poetry event at request of director. Extemp will be housed in the Coliseum with contest rooms TBA. Adds or drops for all speaking need to be made at check-in from 7:30am-8am. Entry limits will be six entries per event, per school. (I.e. up to six in each speaking events). No cross entering please. Please note the judging criteria on the next page.
REGISTRATION: Please register at http://www.joyoftournaments.com. Please mail your payment to
Josue Diaz or bring payment the day of the tournament. Check in will be from 7:30-8am (or when you get there) by the stairs on Saturday. Please contact Josue Diaz at jdiaz@lisd.org or call 214-893-5402 for more information.
ENTRY FEES: $7 per entry for the academic contests; $8 per entry for Prose or Poetry.
DEADLINES: We will need to have your entries in our possession by Tuesday, February 16th. You may make substitutions online after this date, but late drops will result in the loss of your entry fee.
JUDGING: We do ask that you please supply a grader for every academic event in which your school is entered in order to get our contest results posted in a timely manner.
For Speaking Events: You will be required to bring judges (1 judge for every 6 entries); however, if you let me know that you need a judge(s) I will be happy to TRY to obtain judges for you. The judging fee will be $50 per judge needed. This is their pay for the day. It is not revenue for us. Please try to let me know at least a week ahead of time so that I will know how many I need to hire and contact them.
AWARDS: There will be one division. Awards will be given for the top six places in each event. We will also award first and 2nd place teams in each event. Sweepstakes awards will be given to the top three schools based on the UIL point system.

We will take up to six entries per school in all events with the following exceptions:
Math, Number Sense, Calculator, Science: unlimited

***If you have a special need on number of entries, please email or call and maybe we can work something out.
