Fall 2017

Dear Coaches and Students:

The Clear Lake High School Speech & Debate Team extends an invitation to you and your students to attend our annual Clear Lake Falcon Classic TFA Invitational Qualifying Speech and Debate tournament on October 27th and 28th, 2017. Entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.  As in the past, the tournament will be fairly small and we will be limiting entries to maximize the tournament experience for our competitors. Depending on the number of entries and the size of the events we may close registration prior to the deadline. Register EARLY!  Please have your entry entered into JoT NO LATER than 3pm Monday, October 23rd, 2017.  Our drop deadline is 3pm on Thursday, October 26th - drops after this point will cost your entry fee. Drops on Friday, October 27th, will result in double the entry fee. We want accurate numbers, not fees, so please just be aware of the deadlines.

DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!
This year Clear Lake will be offering our 7th Annual TOC Bid in Congressional Debate for the TOP SIX placements.

To enhance the educational atmosphere for our squad members we will have a closed tab room. We will have qualified adult personnel running tab and the JoT program to assure a smoothly run tournament. Any questions or concerns will be handled by Mr. Nassif, Vicky Beard (judges), and Cecil Trent (tab). Absolutely no student competitors or parents are allowed in tab at any time. If the coach of record is not able to attend the tournament prior arrangements need to be made with Mr. Nassif. This proved to be a real problem in past years. It will not be tolerated this year!

PLEASE NOTE THIS IMPORTANT CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS YEARS!
IF YOU SKIP OVER THIS SECTION OF INFO YOU'LL REGRET IT! Almost all of the building that we've used in years past for the tournament has been or is in the process of being demolished. This year as it was last year, the tournament will be split between the CLHS Ninth Grade Center (2903 Falcon Pass, Houston, TX) and the remains of the old Main Building; the Ninth Grade Center is across the street from the Main Building/New Building at the corner of Falcon Pass and Krueger Way. We highly recommend that you plan to arrive at our campus after 2:45, as school ends at 2:30. If you arrive before 1:00 pm we cannot house you on campus!. There is more parking than we've had for the past few years, but much of it is not available until after 2:45. Bus parking will be available before school at the temporary gravel lot on Falcon Pass and after 2:45 in the lot behind the New Building; the White Lot behind the Ninth Grade Center is off limits after school due to band practice. Finally, we must stress that any students, coaches, or judges found trespassing in the construction area will be ejected from the tournament immediately - this is a safety issue!

Please look at the schedule carefully. There will be four (4) rounds of debate.  Three (3) will run on Friday and the fourth (4th) on Saturday morning.  Coaches' Challenge will follow the 4th round. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at school or via email.

We are looking forward to a wonderful experience for you and your students. We promise good food, great concessions and a supportive competitive environment for all. We are fortunate at Clear Lake High School to have an active Debate Parent Booster Organization. They will be assisting with hospitality, concessions and judging, so please be sure to express your appreciation to them. We pride ourselves in our effort to provide one of the best coaches' and judging hospitality facilities in the great State of Texas as well as delicious and varied concessions for our competitors.

We must clarify that should a school decide to use laptops in the extemp draw or any debate round, Clear Lake High School will not be held responsible for lost or damaged laptops. Should a student decide to use a laptop in the prep/draw area, students must leave their computers in draw/prep while they are in the competition room and students will not be allowed back into the draw/prep area until extemp draw has been completed.  Clear Lake High School will not provide power sources for laptop use. Finally and most importantly, under no circumstance should you ever unplug anything that's plugged into an outlet in a room just to power your laptop.

We are excited about this tournament and look forward to seeing you!

Sincerely,

Ankita Rao (NSDA Chapter President)

Aly Maknojia (NSDA Chapter VP-Tournament),

Ryan Nassif (Director, Speech & Debate)
