Rocky Mountain High School cordially invites you to participate in our annual speech and debate tournament. The tournament is sporting a new name and this year, and we are also excited to announce that we will be offering NIETOC bids in Original Oratory, HI, DI, and DUO Interpretation. The tournament will be held November 3rd and 4th at Rocky Mountain High School, located at 5450 N. Linder in Meridian, Idaho.
The games offered will be Speech Individual Events on Friday and Debate Events/Congress on Saturday. Congressional Debate as well as all speech events will be offered only in an Open division, while the tournament will feature Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, and Policy Debate formats in Novice and Open divisions.
Last year our tournament donated 610 pounds of food to the Meridian Food Bank, but this year, we are looking to significantly increase that number. Each team is asked to bring a can of food per entry, with a special trophy awarded to the team that brings the most food. Please help us ensure that families around the state all get to enjoy a holiday without want.
This tournament will operate under the Idaho High School Activities Association debate event rules. Students may double enter in speech individual events (unless entered in radio, retold, extemp, or panel). We will offer 3 preliminary speech rounds followed by finals (awards for Speech will be given during Saturday's awards assembly) on Friday, and 4 rounds for all entries in debate, followed by (quarters for PF, and LD) semis and finals on Saturday. Schools are not limited on entries but must work to cover their entry obligation as much as possible. The tournament reserves the right to limit entries if the room limit is reached or a school enters a large number of entries not allowing their judges to be used. Entering early is encouraged.
Entry deadline for the tournament is Tuesday, October 31st at 5:00 pm (MST) at the http://www.joyoftournaments.com website. Changes (drops or event movement) can be made to existing entries until 3:30 pm (MST) on Wednesday, November 1st, 2017. The $50 drop fee, per event, will be enforced at this tournament on the day of event so please make sure that your entries are as accurate as possible!
