DIVISIONS
Lincoln-Douglas Debate
A school may enter a maximum of 6 LD Debaters
- LD will use 6-3-7-3-4-6-3 speech times with 5 minutes of prep time. Debaters may not use CX time as prep time, but questions may be asked during prep time by the “prepping” debater.
There will be 6 preliminary rounds. We are going to do our best to clear as many 4-2 debaters to a partial triple as we can so long as we believe we can have good, mutually preferred judges. We will not clear beyond a full triple-finals bracket.
Octafinals through Finals will take place on the campus of Harvard-Westlake Upper School.
Public Forum
A school may enter a maximum of 3 Public Forum teams
- PF will default to using the NFL rules with the exception of the coin flip. Each team will be assigned sides for each round. Each team will debate 3 pro rounds and 3 con rounds during prelims (unless there is a bye). Elims will become a flip-for-sides, but not speaker position.
Policy
A school may enter a maximum of 4 policy teams
Policy debate will use the 2011/2012 NFL Resolution, which reads:
Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its exploration and/or development of space beyond the Earth’s mesosphere.
JUDGING REQUIREMENTS
All teams must follow the judging requirements outlined in each of the pages for each division. Judges MAY NOT fulfill obligations across divisions. We may use judges any division.
