Coaches & Competitors,
Welcome to the 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Tournament! The tournament dates are Friday, January 17th – Sunday, January 19th, 2014. We hope you find this to be an enlightening experience for you and your team.
We wanted to share with you a couple of reminders:
v We are adding Supplemental Events to the Tournament!! In order to elevate the caliber of our tournament, by aligning our competition offering as closely as possible with that of the NFL National Championships, we are adding the following supplemental events: Duet Acting, Storytelling, and Oratorical Interpretation.
v Pre-registration for these events will be required when registering your team for competition. Students will become eligible for these offerings only after they have been completely eliminated from their primary events. They will be responsible for registering themselves for their supplemental events at the designated location, which will be announced on Friday.
v Original Advocacy will no longer be offered at this tournament. Oratorical Interpretation will be offered as a supplemental, rather than main, event.
v We will be starting earlier on Friday, January 17th, than we have in previous years. Please note that registration will be from 11AM to 1PM on Friday. Rounds will be starting at 2 in the afternoon.
v We will be pre-paneling judges for all events, so please make sure that your judging list entered at Joy of Tournaments is accurate.
v We encourage you to stay on campus. Food will be sold to students in the Student Union cafeteria and available to judges/coaches ONLY in the Alfonso Roderigues Old Gym.
v Any questions or concerns should be directed to staff members of the James Logan Forensics team (carrying walkie-talkies). You can ask a student volunteer to help you locate one.
v Available bathrooms during the tournament are as follows:
o Girls/Boys Locker Room (near Judges room)
o Staff Lounge bathroom (in Senior Patio)
o Hallway near rooms 6, 63, 71 (Women) & 60, 62, 82 (Men)
v Please pick up out-round trophies in the foyer of the JLHS Center for the Performing Arts (large blue building located near the main parking lot).
o Trophies for non-advancing semifinalists in Individual Events
o Trophies for non-advancing octofinalists in Debate Events
o Trophies will be available on Sunday, 1/19 between 12 and 3pm
v Please remind competitors that they are not allowed to be in rooms without a judge present. Any student in violation of this rule will be immediately disqualified.
If you have any suggestions, comments, or recommendations to help us improve the tournament, please feel free to contact me at email@example.com. We are excited you have chosen to compete at our tournament and wish you and your team the best of luck.
