High School Speech Tournament Invitational
October 1, 2011
September 12, 2011
Dear High School Speech Coach,
The Glendale Community College Forensics Team is under new “management,” but we still hold ourselves to the same high standards of tournament excellence! We are excited to invite you to the 2011 High School Invitational Speech Tournament on Saturday, October 1, 2011. We offer competition in the following individual events: Drama, Humor, Poetry, Prose, Duo Interpretation, Impromptu Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking (combination of foreign and domestic topics), Expository Speaking, and Original Oratory. Additionally, we will offer Public Forum Debate. Awards will be given to the top 6 competitors in each individual event and semi and finalists in Public Forum Debate. While we will not split open and novice divisions for actual competition, the top novice speakers in the all events will receive recognition. Finally, we will award sweepstakes awards to the top 3 high school speech teams with the highest cumulative points from the final rounds.
We care about creating a positive experience for your high school students, and we strive to offer a quality tournament. Therefore, we limit each school to 5 entries per event, and we limit individual events students to have no more than 2 events (double entry) per pattern. Students competing in Extemporaneous speaking may not double enter in pattern A. Students competing in Public Forum Debate will not be able to compete in individual events. Our attempt is to balance small and large squads in quantity but not in quality. This equalization of size will encourage smaller programs and reward talent and quality rather than size, making the experience less intimidating for young competitors.
The registration deadline is Tuesday, September 27th at 7 pm. We’re looking forward to seeing you! If you want to participate in a tournament focused on the student, then this is the tournament for you.
Sincerely,
Roxan Arntson, Jay Arntson, Kevin Briancesco, & Loren Schwarzwalter
