Original Test Materials
The New Caney High School UIL Academic team invites you to join us for our NCHS UIL Kick-off Invitational meet. We will be using original materials. We hope to accommodate all who wish to attend. Early entries are greatly appreciated. Please include all contact information, such as phone numbers and email addresses.
Students must be accompanied by at least one adult school representative. Students without an adult will be turned away at the door.
Registration: Please register on-line at www.joyoftournaments.com. If you have further questions, please contact Jane Atwell at email@example.com. Payments may be made at the door or sent in advance to the address below. Please make checks payable to New Caney High School UIL Academics.
$10.00 per student per event. (Ex. 1 student entering 3 events = $30.00) We prep for the number of students you submit on the registration forms. Please pay that amount. If you have students that do not join you on Saturday morning, please sub in another member of your team.

Deadline: Website registration will close on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 4:00 p.m.
Events: We are offering all UIL academic and writing events only. We will follow rules as stated in the Constitution and its conflict pattern.
Grading: All coaches are asked to help with grading for their students' events. Please enter names and subject area preferences for those who will proctor, grade and/or judge.
Ready Writing and Journalism events: If you enter any journalism events or Ready Writing, your school must provide a qualified judge. Our goal for the tournament is to provide good judge's comments and have a real learning experience for all contestants so a panel of judges is important. Judges' names need to be entered on The Joy of Tournaments website when registering.
We strongly suggest schools bring and set-up their own laptops and printers in the testing rooms. Computers may be available but this is not guaranteed. Per UIL rules, dictionaries and thesauruses may be used. Each school must provide their own. Students may not share reference materials during a contest.
Computer Applications: Students must provide their own laptop, printer, software, hardware, paper and necessary cords and cables. One grader for each school in this event is required to grade in order for your contestant’s entry to be graded.
Spelling: One grader for each school in this event must be at grading in order for your contestant’s entry to be graded.
Hospitality: There will be breakfast and lunch items available in the food lab for coaches, judges, and bus drivers.
Students: Breakfast food, lunch food, snacks and beverages will be available for purchase in the cafeteria. There are no food establishments within walking distance of our school.
Ribbons/medals will be awarded for the top six places. A special award will be given to the first place school based on the UIL point system. Awards will be handed out throughout the day as results are announced. Unclaimed awards and all test papers will be in a bag designated for each school in the tab room. Please collect your school's materials before leaving or arrange to collect the materials at a later date. We will not be mailing materials.
New Caney High School is located on the east side of Hwy. 59 between FM 1314 and FM 1485 north of Humble/Kingwood and south of Splendora/Cleveland. Heading north from Humble/Kingwood on Hwy 59, take the exit for 1314 Porter/Conroe. Travel through the light, drive north along the feeder to Eagle Drive. Turn right on Eagle Drive and drive east until you come to the school on the right.
If you are coming from the Splendora/Cleveland direction exit FM 1485, drive under the freeway and continue east to Loop 494. Turn right on Loop 494 and travel south to Eagle Drive. Turn right on Eagle Drive and pull into the parking lot in front of the school.
Drop off students in the circular drive in front of the school. Bus parking is available in the parking lot east of the school.
Guidelines for Tournament:
· We will follow the UIL conflict schedule, and all UIL rules will apply throughout the contest.
· Coaches may register beginning at 7:00 a.m. Students are asked to remain in the cafeteria until time for their contest.
· Substitutions may be made the day of the contest at the door of the contest. It is the responsibility of the contestant to inform the director of the specific contest of the substitution.
· All announced results are final. Any questions concerning any contest must be raised during the verification time and directed to the tournament director.
· The NCHS campus is tobacco and drug free. Food and drinks are to remain in the cafeteria area. Please help us tidy up throughout the day.
· Announcements of winners and presentation of awards will occur in the cafeteria following verification of each event. Names of the winners will also be posted in the cafeteria area.
