Dear UIL Coordinator:


We would like to invite you to our 1st ever UIL Invitational at Gutierrez Middle School on December 8, 2018. The following events will be offered at this meet:


Written Events: Number Sense, Mathematics, Calculator Skills, Science, Ready Writing, Listening Skills, Dictionary Skills, Maps Graphs & Charts, Social Studies, Spelling.

Speaking Events: Poetry, Prose, Spanish Poetry, Solo Acting, Duet Acting, Impromptu Speaking, Modern Oratory.

o   Entry fees will be $5.00 for individual events per student. Team events will be $10.00 per entry (that will cover the cost of both students involved). Trophies will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each event per grade level. Ribbons will be given to individuals finishing in 4th-10th place in each event per grade level.

o   We will be awarding sweepstakes trophies to the top 2 schools in the 6th grade division as well as for the 7th/8th grade division.

o   UIL tests will be used for all events.


I have included a tentative schedule of events. For speaking events, students will have a 1-hour window to report to their event. If they do not report within that 1-hour window, they will not be allowed to compete. Cross-enter at your own risk.

o   We will be limiting the number of entries for all speaking events to 3 per grade level.

  • Please note: All grade level SPEAKING events will be allowed to have an audience.  We are encouraging our students to grow and get ready for the High School level of said events. Please let your students know they are to be at their best behavior while someone is preforming, or they will be disqualified.

o   Ready writing and Spelling will be limited to 3 entries per grade level.


Deadline for entries: November 23, 2018

(We will issue a number to your campus as soon as we receive the entry form. That will be your assigned school number for the meet.)

(Due to a lot of interest in our meet our campus will have a maximum of 20 schools only.)



A concession stand will be available for students starting at 8:30 am. Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided for all coaches and bus drivers. Please make sure to indicate the number on your entry form so we may prepare accordingly.
