You are cordially invited to the 5th annual

Clear Falls Knight Invitational TFA / TOC Speech Qualifying Tournament

Hosted by the Clear Falls Knights Debate, Speech, and Interpretation Team

September 20th and 21st, 2019

On behalf of Clear Falls High School, its faculty, staff, and administration, I would like to formally invite you and your teams to join us on Friday, September 20th and Saturday, September 21st for our 5th annual Clear Falls Knight Invitational TFA / TOC Speech Qualifying Tournament.

Please visit the other parts of our Joy of Tournaments website for details about the tournament, including event rules, tournament information, our tournament schedule, entry fees, and judging information.

Teams may make changes to their entries until our drop deadline of Tuesday, September 17th at 4:00 p.m. for free.  Registration will close at that time, but we will accept name switches and drops - but no additional entries (unless otherwise authorized by me).  Your entry fees will be locked in at the close of registration, so please make sure that your entries are valid and correct by that time.  We appreciate your payment of entry fees at registration, but realize that some districts may take some time processing payment.  Coaches who will be mailing their entry fees will be asked to sign-off that all of their paperwork has been turned in and payment is forthcoming.

We will plan on having preliminary rounds, followed by semifinals, and finals in all speech events as entries warrant.  In events with small entries, we may opt to offer a 2nd preliminary round before going to finals.  In debate, we plan on having 3 preliminary rounds of Policy, 4 preliminary rounds of PF and LD, and a preliminary session of Congress divided into two 90 minutes long segments.  Once entries are finalized, we will announce what our first break rounds will be for debate events.

Each team will be given an assigned judging slot to fill with a coach or adult sponsor.  Please provide the name of who will be filling this judging slot as you register for this tournament. Teams may buy-out this judging obligation for $150.

We will have a fully-stocked judge/coach lounge that we expect will be as good as our judge/coach lounge has been in previous years.

Our tournament will also have a fully-provisioned concessions stand with dinner (Friday), breakfast (Saturday), and lunch options (Saturday) - along with standard snacks - throughout each tournament day.

Our tournament will host all TFA events with 10 or more entries (save for World Schools Debate which we may consider if there's a ground-swell of support for the event) and award TFA points to qualify for the TFA State tournament.  We will also be awarding TOC Speech National tournament qualifying bids in Extemporaneous Speaking, Original Oratory, Humorous Interpretation, Oral Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, and Program Oral Interpretation

We are also offering Impromptu Speaking (check out event rules for how round themes will vary).  Novice divisions will be offered for Extemporaneous Speaking, PF Debate, and LD Debate

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at your earliest convenience at tcosenza@ccisd.net.  I will send out my personal cell phone number to all coaches and sponsors upon the close of registration via a group email should you need to call or text me during tournament week.

Thank you and we hope you'll join us for what we expect will be a terrific and memorable tournament.

Sincerely yours,

Mr. Tomas Cosenza

Head Coach

Clear Falls Knights Debate, Speech, and Interpretation Team
