Stephen F. Austin State University
Lumberjack UIL Invitational Tournament
Friday, January 24, 2020
A few years ago, I was chatting with some other coaches about how it was difficult to get kids on a bus before daybreak on a Saturday. We talked about having a tournament during the week, but there was that school thing that was also going on in the building. Last year, I spoke with Dr. Judy Abbott about moving Dr. Edwards' CX workshop to SFA so that we could do it during the day instead of after school and it was a big hit. Encouraged by this, I spoke with Dr. Abbott about SFA hosting an invitational during the week, so...
Center High School and Stephen F Austin State University invite you to attend our First Lumberjack/Roughrider Invitational Tournament on Friday, January 24, 2020. We will be offering all UIL Academic events (except Computer Science hands on) including CX and LD debate. We will also be following the UIL Academic Conflict Pattern with CX and LD scheduled together. All events will follow UIL rules and guidelines.
A couple of notes: The UIL Conflict Pattern has changed and so we changed the schedule and moved Literary Criticism to its new spot in the schedule. Also, if there are no cross entries we will move Mathematics up in the schedule after Calculator.
Entries will be accepted through Joy of Tournaments. The deadline for entries will be Tuesday, January 21, at 5:00 pm, or until all our spaces are filled. Judging/Grader requirements are found on the information page.
Concessions will be provided in the concession stand for students...watch this space for location or we will just send them to the Student Center. Coaches and judges will have refreshments in the Coach’s Lounge. There are several fast food restaurants near campus and we will provide maps for schools that choose to leave campus.
Our goals for our tournament are fairly simple: Run on time. Get the results right. Run on time. Provide a good experience and practice for the participants. Run on time. So, any advice or help that you can offer will be greatly appreciated. If you are willing to help any of our contest directors, please, contact one of the tournament directors.
We look forward to your visit to SFA.
