2019 BH Sting Invitational
Dates: 12/13/2019 - 12/14/2019

December 13-14, 2019

Dear Forensic Coach:

WELCOME:  We cordially invite you to our Black Hills State University Sting Tournament to be held December 13 and 14, 2019.  Please read through the entire invitation.  If you have any questions feel free to contact me (Bob Speirs) at 605-641-0530 or email me at rspeirs@spearfish.k12.sd.us  Or Tournament administrator Bryan Waugh at  22bryanw@gmail.com  .

ENTRY LIMITS / DOUBLING:   There will be NO DOUBLING WITHIN THE PATTERN.  At the start we will allow 24 entries that you may split up as you wish. PF and Duet will count as ONE entry.  Additional entries will be accepted as we have room and on a 1st come 1st served basis.  So please use the wait-list option when registering.  We are normally able to take nearly all of the wait-list names.

Please note that we are NOT going to offer CX Debate and all Speech events and Congress will have 4 prelims and break straight to finals.

The LD topic used will be the NSDA Dec choice.  PF will debate the NSDA December topic. Please submit congress legislation to 22bryanw@gmail.com by 10pm on December 9th for inclusion on the JOT website.  Congress participants should bring with them a printed copy of all the legislation posted online. Paper copies will not be provided at the tournament.

WHO GETS AWARDS:  Awards will be given to the top six places in all IE's.  Trophies for 1-3 medals for 4-6th. In congress, the top six speakers in each pattern will receive awards.  In the debates, all semifinalists and/or finalists will receive awards.

Entry fees will be $10 per single entry and $15 for team entries.

DEADLINES:  Please complete your preliminary registration by 5 P.M. Wednesday, December 4th, 2019.  Please make all of your changes by the end of the day on Wednesday, December 11th, 2019.  It is very important that you visit the website frequently to confirm and update your entries as needed.  Final billing will be calculated at 5 P.M. on the 12th.  After that time only drops will be accepted with no refunds for the dropped entries.  Please drop students on JOT through 11 am on Thursday, the 13th at which time the website will be closed except for name changes and drops.  Drops at registration are $25.00 each + entry fee.  Avoid this fee by calling in drops to the number above.  Unfortunately, there will be no refunds/credits for entry fees, even for schools that choose to drop their entire team, after 4 P.M. on December 12th.

FOOD & COACH JUDGING:  Our judges/coaches lounge treats everyone as an invited guest and we plan to feed you accordingly.  Our local judges are typically well trained, have judged for years, and are really excited about helping out. We do not plan to use coaches as our sole means of covering rounds.  But please know that a few rounds may need to be covered here and there.  It is our plan that this will be a nice, relaxing, stress free weekend. The Tab Room will be closed.

DECORUM & GENERAL JUDGING:  Once again, we will be asking for your help with monitoring your teams in the commons, and --(as a last resort)-- with judging.  Please, only personal stereos with headphones.  We have a very conservative community that only knows of speech and debate through what they see during tournaments.  We ask that all students be on their best behavior during the entire tournament, including down time between rounds.  We respectfully request that you leave the toys, and distractions at home.

We look forward to seeing you,

Bryan Waugh and Bob Speirs
