2017 Whitehouse Thanksgiving Classic

Dear UIL Coordinator/Sponsor:
 
Whitehouse High School would like to cordially invite you to our 12th Annual Wildcat Fall Classic. This UIL speech and academic meet will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017.
 
EVENTS: All UIL events plus NFL Public Forum Debate, Student Congress, Original Oratory and Interp Events. This tournament is an NTDA Qualifier.  All academic tests are from 3rd party vendors.

DEADLINES: All entries are due online by Monday, November 6, 2017 at 4:00 PM. You may change names after this date, BUT drops made after Wednesday November 8, 2017 at 4:00 PM will result in the loss of your entry fee.
 
JUDGING: You must supply a judge/grader for every event in which your school is entered. If you do not provide a grader/judge your students will not be graded.  For debate you must have 1 judge for every 4 LD contestants or 2 CX teams, or part thereof and 1 judge for every 4 PFD teams, or part thereof. For Prose/Poetry, Speech, and Writing Events, you must provide 1 judge for each 6 participants or part thereof. Judging fees are $100/judge for debate and speaking events if you do not provide a judge, however we prefer judges over fees. AT MINIMUM, speech/debate team coaches MUST serve as judges. For writing events if you have no judge your student may compete, but they will not be graded. Please contact us ahead of time if this is a problem.
 
ENTRY FEES:                        CX/PFD Entries:                                           $30/team

                                                All Other Events:                                          $8
 
AWARDS: Medals will be awarded for the top 6 places in each event. There will be sweepstakes awards given to the top performing schools based on the UIL point system for both big and small school events, but only UIL events count towards sweepstakes. In Science awards will be given for the top scores in each grade, top score in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, and overall 1st-6th place. In all Math events awards will be given for the top score in each grade, as well as the overall 1st-6th places. We will also present awards in big and small school categories for all events except speech.  
 
OTHER INFORMATION: 
 
EXTEMP: All current UIL rules related to the disabling of Wi-Fi or other internet access must be followed.
 
UIL CX: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its funding and/or regulation of elementary and/or secondary education in the United States.

UIL LD: RESOLVED: We will use the UIL LD Debate topic from the UIL website. I will update when available.

PFD: Resolved: On balance, the benefits of the Internet of Things outweigh the harms of decreased personal privacy.
 
UIL Congress: We will use the UIL District Congress ESC 7 docket. First round will use bills 1-5 and second round will use bills 6-10
 
Poetry & Prose: Selections will be reader's choice.
 
Computer Applications: Limit 3 participants per school. Schools must provide their own computers and printers.  Entries limited to 25 due to lack of space.
 
Ready Writing/Journalism: We will take the first 40 entries due to lack of space. You must provide a grader for your students. Your students will not be graded if you do not provide a judge.  Computers will be provided, however, students may use laptops in both writing competitions. Schools must provide their own power cords and printers if they use their own computers.                                
 
Science: We will follow the UIL Calculator rules for the science test. The only allowed calculators are the:

HOSPITALITY ROOM: A coaches and judges hospitality room will be provided. Continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be served. A concession stand will be available in the cafeteria for students.
