UIL Invitational Meet

Dear UIL Coordinator:
Sulphur Springs High School is excited about hosting our annual Academic UIL Invitational Meet on Friday, February 24, and Saturday, February 25, 2017. Registration will be through Joy of Tournaments. Please go to www.joyoftournaments.com. Entry deadline is Feb. 22, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. Drops after that time will result in the loss of the entry fee.
Registration for Friday’s events will be held in the office from 3:30-3:50 p.m. The office is located directly off the cafeteria to the left. Registration Saturday morning will be held in the cafeteria.
There will be two divisions: Small Schools(1A – 3A) and Large Schools (4A – 6A)
If the numbers in each division is very unbalanced, we may move 4A to the Small School division.
Speech contests will be in one division unless the number of entries will allow us to divide into two divisions.
Total entries for certain events will be limited. Entries will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. When the maximum number of entries is reached, registration for that contest will close. The contests listed below will have limited entries as indicated:
Computer Applications – 40 per division
Prose and Poetry – 24 per division
Informative Speaking – 24 per division
Persuasive Speaking – 24 per division
The Ready Writing contest will take place on Friday, February 24, at 4:30 PM. Computer set-up for those opting to use their own computers will be at 4:00 PM. Each contestant must supply his or her own dictionary and thesaurus. Sponsors must be available for grading at the conclusion of the contest.
Labs that have computers equipped with MS Office 13 and a shared printer will be available for use for Ready Writing, Computer Applications, and Journalism events.
The C-X Debate will be offered if there are enough entries. You must have one judge per two entries or a portion thereof. Please e-mail Heath Robinson at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have debate questions.
Computer Science will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017. Computer set-up for the hands-on portion will be at 4:00 p.m. The written test will be held at 4:30 p.m. followed by the hands-on contest at 5:30 p.m. Teams will consist of 3 competitors each. You may enter multiple teams.
Medals will be awarded in both divisions to the top six winners in each event. The top scorer in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics will receive medals. In the four math and science events, contestants will be broken down by grade levels as well as divisions with medals to be awarded to the top six in each grade. Plaques and medals will be awarded to first place teams (4 medals) in team events. Medals will be awarded to the second place teams (4 medals) in team events. Plaques will be presented to the two schools in each division who earn the most points.
The location for presentation of the awards for each contest will be announced in the contest rooms before the contest begins. Individual and team awards will be announced after the official results have been verified and recorded.
Test materials will come from independent vendors and will not be UIL Set B materials.
Refreshments for sponsors, graders, and judges will be provided. Concessions will be available for students on Saturday.
