J. P. Worsham Memorial Speech Tournament

The Snyder High School Speech Department cordially invites your school to the J. P. Worsham Memorial Speech Tournament on January 13-14, 2012.  We will host all TFA events except Duo Acting.  This tournament only offers one preliminary round, but we allow most of your students to enter ten events.

With all of our construction, we are forced to limit entries especially on Friday.  C-X will be limited to 20 teams while L-D and PF will be limited to 40 each.  Since we cannot exceed 34 rooms, IEs might be packed depending on the number of entries.  Usually, USX and FX should be able to reach 60, but Prose, Poetry, and Impromptu really can’t exceed 70.

One very important change for our tournament will be that we will be using the U.I.L. Lincoln-Douglas Debate Spring Topic instead of the NFL January/February topic.  We are using this topic so that the smaller schools in the area will get some practice rounds.  We will award the top 3 schools with team awards and will also award the top small school.  This will be a great opportunity for each of you to solidify your district squads for U.I.L. and also get those remaining qualifications for TFA State.

We are asking that you be available to judge as needed.  It is our hope that you enjoy your stay in Snyder and that your students exceed all of your expectations.  We do understand that you are our guests and we promise to do all we can to make your stay a positive one.

Another change will be that we will not have an awards assembly this year due to Caleb’s football banquet on Saturday evening.  I will probably have to leave before the events finish anyway and so we will award as events finish.  I apologize for this now, because part of the honor is being recognized by all of the schools.  Brackets in debate will not be broken so that the integrity of the brackets will be maintained.  In other words, your kids may debate themselves in quarters, semis, or finals if the brackets warrant.

                                                          Sincerely,

                                                          Ron Hester
