Dear UIL Coordinator/Sponsor:
Begin the 2009-2010 UIL season with us at Pine Tree High School on January 8th and 9th. The Pine Tree Invitational is one of the largest in the state, and we hope you will consider traveling to Longview for some great competition. We will use UIL Set A materials for Academic Events. For Speech events please bring both Set A and B materials along with documentation.
EVENTS: This contest includes all UIL events. The Academic events will be separated into large schools and small schools. The speech and debate events will not be separated into two divisions for large schools and for small schools.
REGISTRATION: Please register at www.joyoftournaments.com. If you have any questions, contact Bonnie Edmund at (903) 452-1440 or by email at bedmund@ptisd.org. For Speech & Debate questions please email Joshusa Graves at jgraves@ptisd.org. The coordinator, or representative, should come to registitration and self-address an envelope to mail the results/student papers. There is a $10 fee for mailing any unclaimed medals or plaques.
DEADLINES: We will need to have your entries in our possession by Tuesday, January 5, 2010. You may make substitutions online after this date, but late drops will result in the loss of your entry fee.
ENTRY FEES: $6 per entry for the academic events. Fees for the speaking events include $25 per team for C-X and $15 per team for LD PFD fees will be $20. Prose, Poetry, Informative, and Persuasive will also be $8 per entry. Mail your check to Bonnie Edmund (payable to Pine Tree) or bring to the registration table the day of the meet. Sponsor packets and student schedules will be available at registration. Sponsors will conduct a roll check in the room before the contest to handle any last minute substitutions.
JUDGING: Each school will be required to provide judges. You must supply a judge/grader for every event in which your school is entered. If you do not provide a grader/judge, your student will be disqualified. For speaking events, 1 judge is required for every two teams or every 3 individuals. For speech, judge requirements are 1 judge for every 6 entries. Please note, a $75 fee will be charged per judge if you are not able to bring the required amount of judges. All teams competing in CX, LD, or PFD must bring judges for those events.
COACHES: Please bring stop watches/timers!!!
AWARDS: Awards will be given for the top 6 places in each event. Plaques will be given to the top performing schools based on the UIL point system. Unclaimed medals will be mailed with the packets if a $10 fee is paid with registration. Remember there will be two divisions for all academic events this year. Division One is 4A-5A schools. Division Two is 1A-3A schools.
OTHER INFORMATION:
We will take 5 entries per school in all events with the following exceptions:
Number Sense, Calculator, Math, and Science Contests: Unlimited entries.
Computer Applications: 3 entries
Please note: In team events the sponsor must designate the 4 students who form your team prior to testing.
Registration and Hospitality Room:
Registration will be in the main office (New Wing) for all academic events on Saturday, January 9, 2010.
Debate registration will be in the main office Friday, January 8, 2010.
A hospitality room for coaches and judges will also be provided in the homemaking room. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be served. A concession stand will be available for students (place TBA). Concessions will include the following items: pizza, chips, granola bars, snacks, candies (chocolate bars, etc), and water.
CAFETERIA HOURS:
Friday, January 8th the cafeteria will be the waiting area for students between rounds. The concession stand will be available there.
Saturday, January 9th the cafeteria will open at 12:30 p.m. It will be closed for testing before 12:30 p.m. The library will be available while the cafeteria is closed once extemp draw has been completed.
