Spring Academic UIL Invitational Meet

Miller Grove High School will be hosting our Spring Academic UIL Invitational Meet on Wednesday

February 21, 2018.  Registration will be through www.joyoftournaments.com.

(25 minutes from Greenville, Sulphur Springs, Commerce, and Emory)


Events:

Wednesday, February 21, 2018

Beginning at 10:30 and last event to begin at 3:45p.m. academic and 4:30p.m for LD debate.

Academic Events

We will offer most UIL events including prose, poetry and both extemporaneous speaking categories.

Prelims will be Category A, and finals will be Category B. 

 

Extemporaneous Speaking will also be offered in both events.

 

Ready Writing-Each contestant must supply his or her own dictionary and thesaurus.  Computers and printers will be availaible for use.  

Writing Event Sponsors must be available for grading after the contests. 

 


Deadlines:

  • Entry Deadline: Wednesday, February 14th at 4:00 pm
  • Drop Deadline: Wednesday, February 14th at 4:00 pm. Drops after this time will result in loss of entry fees or billing.
  • Debate: Drops on the day of tournament will result in a $25 fee. No shows will be considered a drop, and your school will be billed. 

Make all entries on the http://www.joyoftournaments. If you have never used this service, there are help guides to "talk you through it". You will make a master list of your students (which will stay in your school's account for four years), then enter them in the events/entries that they will be participating in and be sure to save each one of them. Call me if you have any questions. Once you are entered, it will save you a lot of time and effort each year.  


Fees:

·         Non-speaking events are $8 per entry.

·        Prose, Poetry, Informative and Persuasive are $10 per entry. You MUST provide a judge for each speech contest in which you have students entered. You may use the same two judges for informative and persuasive that you used for poetry and prose.

·       L-D debate are $20 per entry.  You must provide one judge for every 4 entries. Judging fees are $125 per judge if you do not provide a judge. Please e-mail Marcella Hayden at mhayden@mgisd.net if you have debate questions.

Test Materials:

Third Party Materials will be used for all Academic contests.


Entries:

Multiple-We have devised our own schedule based on the UIL conflict pattern. Please check times carefully. Contest times cannot be altered to accommodate contestants entered in more than one event.

 

Total entries for certain events will be limited.  Entries will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.  When the maximum number of entries is reached, registration for that contest will close.  The contests listed below will have limited entries as indicated: 

Prose and Poetry – 16 per contest

Informative Speaking – 16 per contest

Persuasive Speaking – 16 per contest

L-D Debate-24 Entries

Medals/Ribbons will be awarded to the top six winners in each event.  The top scorer in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics will receive medals.   Medals will be awarded to first, and second place teams (3 medals per team).  Plaques will be presented to the three schools who earn the most points.

 All medals will be placed in a bag with your school’s name on it and it can be picked up after your last contest ends.

 

An awesome hospitality room for sponsors, graders, and judges will be provided.  

 

A concession stand will be available for students. There will be items sold individually and $5.00 and $6.00 combo meals.

 

All students will be held in the new gym when not competing.
