Magnolia High School will be hosting the 12th Annual BULLDOG BONANZA Speech and Debate Tournament on January 12th and 13th, 2018. We hope you will join us! It is our goal to provide a competitive and well run tournament for all.
We are offering 4 rounds for all debate events and 2 rounds of prelims in both Duet and Duo.
We will continue to offer a schedule to allow students to enter both Foreign Extemp and Domestic Extemp.
Entry Limits: Individual event entries will be limited to 10 entries per event. Wait listed entries will be accepted beginning December 16 until we are full. We will accept 5 entries in CX debate, 10 entries in Public Forum, and 10 in LD until we are full. We will allow a wait list for any room that becomes available.
- A full-time school employee must be present at all times or the entire squad will be disqualified (drop fees will apply).
- We provide 4 rounds of debate for the educational value to all participants. Teams that "no show" for Round IV, impact that experience for their scheduled opponents. Any team that "no shows" for Round IV of debate will incur the following penalties:
a. ALL teams entered in that debate event from that school will be dropped
b. ALL dropped teams will incur an additional triple the entry fee for dropping.
Important Deadlines: We will take entries until we are full; however, we suggest early entry to ensure all of your numbers are accepted. You will be charged for your entry as of 7:00 AM Wednesday, January 10, 2018. All drops after 7:00 AM January 10 will result in loss of the entry fee. Drops and no-shows after 7:00 AM the day of the tournament will be charged an additional two times the original entry fee.
JUDGES: Coaches will be asked to be on standby for 2 individual event rounds. Coaches will, as always, be our last resort to keep the tournament running on time. Schools entering CX Debate are expected to provide 1 CX judge for every 2 teams or portion thereof. Schools entering Public Forum debate are expected to bring 1 Public Forum judge for every 5 Public Forum teams or portion thereof. Schools entering LD debate will be required to provide 1 judge for every 5 LD debaters or portion thereof. A judge may only fill one of the school requirements. You may buy-out of your debate judge requirements for a fee of $150 per judge in all events except CX debate - you must provide your school's respective amount of judges; however, please remember, we want your judges, not your money! School Debate judges will be scheduled. Failure to report for assigned debate rounds will result in a charge for that judge!
There is no additional fee for judges for individual events. There will be a $50 facilities fee per school.
We will use the Current Topics for January 2018 for all debate events as posted on the NSDA website.
