THE SECOND ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT & CRIMINAL JUSTICE U.I.L. SPEECH, DEBATE, & THEATRE TOURNAMENT

August 28, 2008

Dear Students and Faculty:

We are excited to announce The Second Annual High School for Law Enforcement & Criminal Justice U.I.L. Speech, Debate, and Theatre Tournament scheduled on September 26 & 27, 2008. The faculty and staff of the Houston Independent School District is extremely pleased to welcome you to our campus!

Debate events will include Cross-Examination Debate and Lincoln-Douglas Debate - to prepare students for upcoming U.I.L. District Contests.

Interpretation contestants will be able to compete in Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Storytelling, Duet Impromptu, Group Improvisation, Poetry Interpretation, Prose Interpretation, Television Commercial, Duet Acting, and Religious Text.

Public speaking competitors can enter Informative Speaking, Persuasive Speaking, Impromptu Speaking, Original Oration, and Soap Box Speaking.

Fine arts events will include Audition, Dance, Vocal Solo, Solo Lip Sync, and Group Lip Sync.

WE ARE PARTICULARLY EXCITED TO OFFER SIX SPANISH-LANGUAGE EVENTS - ENABLING MORE STUDENTS FROM EACH OF YOUR CAMPUSES TO COMPETE!!!  THESE EVENTS ARE AUDITIONING, POETRY INTERPRETATION, RELIGIOUS TEXT, SOAP BOX SPEAKING, STORYTELLING, AND TELEVISION COMMERCIAL!!!

The top six final round performances will receive trophies. In debate events, all semi-finalists will receive trophies. Additionally, awards will be given to the top three contestants overall and the top three speakers in each debate event.
