Dear UIL Coordinator/Sponsor:
Hallsville High School will host a full UIL Academic and Debate/Speech prep tournament on February 10-11, 2012. We will use UIL Set B materials for all academic events (except Spelling-ASW), and we will follow the UIL conflict pattern. We hope that this tournament will provide everyone with some great practice before district competition.
For the Debate/Speech portion, we will offer: 3 rounds each of CX Debate, UIL LD Debate, NFL LD Debate, & PFD on Friday as well as quarters, semis and finals on Saturday. Poetry, Prose, Informative, Persuasive, Original Oratory, Humorous Interp, Dramatic Interp, and Duo will have 2 guaranteed rounds with the 2nd round being a hidden semi-finals. You may find more information regarding the speech events, fees, and judging requirements on the website. Please note that the NFL events do not follow the UIL conflict pattern.
Special Note: We do please ask that those who have attended a UIL B tournament the weekend prior to not compete the same students for competition. We welcome you to have your kids test for practice again, but please let the coaches know so we can pull those who have tested previously from medaling.
EVENTS: Contest includes all UIL events (with the addition of some additional speaking events). We will award a combined Sweepstakes for the UIL academic events, UIL LD, CX, Poetry, Prose, Informative, and Persuasive. CX, LD, and PFD pre-lims will be held Friday evening, February 10, beginning at 4:15pm. All other events and out-rounds of debate will take place on Saturday, February 12. The Computer Science contest will consist of the written portion only.
REGISTRATION: Please register at http://www.joyoftournaments.com. Please mail your payment to Lee Branson or bring payment the day of the tournament. Check in will be from 7:30-8am (or when you get there) in the front foyer on Saturday and 3:00 - 4:00pm on Friday. There will be no formal registration for non speaking events. If you have questions, please contact Lee Branson at lbranson@hisd.com or call 903-668-5990 ext 2102. For speech or debate concerns, please contact Melissa Witt at mwitt@hisd.com or ext. 2021.
ENTRY FEES: $8 per entry for the academic contests. Fees for the speaking events are: C-X $30.00 per team; L/D $15.00 per entry; PFD $20.00 per entry; Individual Events $10.00 per entry
DEADLINES: We will need to have your academic event entries in our possession by Monday, February 6, 2012 @ 5pm. You may make substitutions online after this date, but late drops will result in the loss of your entry fee. Deadlines for speech and debate are listed in information for that section on the website.
JUDGING: Each school will be required to provide judges/graders. We do ask that you please supply a grader for every academic event in which your school is entered in order to get our contest results posted in a timely manner. Please see the information regarding judges and fees for speaking events on the website.
AWARDS: THERE WILL BE TWO DIVISIONS IN ALL ACADEMIC EVENTS THIS YEAR. (1A-3A and 4A-5A) We hope this will allow for more opportunities for students to take home awards! Awards will be given for the top 6 places in each event. We will also award 1st place team in each academic event with medals and a plaque. Sweepstakes awards (1st-3rd) will be given to the top three schools in each division (A-AAA and AAAA-AAAAA) based on the UIL point system.
