The Clark Forensics League would like to invite you to attend the

The Cat in the Hat Invitational on Friday, February 3 - Saturday, February 4, 2012.

We welcome everyone!  We will be offering a one day tournament schedule in two days: one preliminary round for all individual events and three preliminary rounds for debate events.

 Tournament Dedication

Dedication goes both ways. Cassandra “CJ” Hicks, a former Clark extemporaneous speaker and congressional debater, dedicated her heart and soul to Clark Forensics.  We will dedicate this tournament to her. CJ suddenly passed away on December 26, 2006. She was a strong competitor and great friend to all that knew her. The Clark forensics team will present an award to the best overall competitor at the end of the awards ceremony in her memory. We feel that rewarding those who excel at the tournament will be the best way to honor CJ.

About our theme

In support of early literacy, the Clark Forensics League would like your support in our book drive.  One of the most important things that you can do is to read to your child every day; it's the most effective strategy for developing critical early reading skills in children and promoting school readiness.  If your team would like to participate, please bring new or gently used books to registration.  The team that donates the most books will decide which local organization / facility the books will be donated to.

Events

We will offer the following events:

DX, FX, OO, DI, HI, DA, DUO, PR, PO, SC, PF, Novice LD and LD.

Students may enter multiple individual events at their own risk, but only enter one division of extemporaneous speaking.  If you are entered in the debate events, you may only cross-enter in DX, FX, or OO. Cross-entered contestants are responsible for making it on time to all events.  No round will be delayed due to cross-entries.  ALL Cross-Entered students MUST sign in with the judge prior to competing.  If the contestant fails to notify the judge that they are cross-entered, the contestant risks "no-showing" the round and penalty fees will be assessed.  Judges will be asked to stay 15 minutes to confirm no-shows.  Once the judge leaves the room, the round will be considered complete and the judge will not be asked to go back to judge a late contestant.  Please inform your cross-entered students on this matter.

We will not break brackets in debate.

Lincoln Douglas topic will be the January/February NFL resolution.

The Public Forum topic will be the February NFL resolution.

Congress will be using legislation:

PRELIMS: 16-30

FINALS: 1-15

Legislation is available on the TFA website at: http://www.txfa.org/congress.asp

Students can run for Presiding Officer in prelims but not in finals.

Entry Guidelines

All Texas Forensics Association rules will be followed.  This is a TFA State qualifying tournament for member schools.  If you need a copy of TFA contest rules, please access their website at www.txfa.org. Please enter early; we will accept entries until we reach capacity.  If room limits are reached before the registration deadline, we will close registration to those events.  All others will be wait-listed, and we will notify you if they are eligible for entry.

You must enter online at: www.joyoftournaments.com/tx/clark

Deadlines

All entries are due by 4pm on Tuesday, January 31. All drops made after this time will result in loss of entry fee. Drops after 4pm on Thursday, February 3, will result in a fee double the entry fee. Drops on the day of the tournament will result in triple the entry fee. No-shows to rounds will also be assessed an additional $20 penalty fee and the student competitor will be withdrawn from the event postings.
