2017 Boling High School Tournament
Dates: 11/11/2017

Dear Colleagues:

It’s that time again!  The Nineteenth Annual Boling High School Speech and Debate Tournament will be held on November 11, 2017.  We will be offering UIL speaking events including debate, extemp, and interp with novice and senior divisions (if we have enough entries).

Registration

The tournament is first come, first served because of our limited number of rooms.  Registration will be through Joy of Tournaments (www.joyoftournaments.com)

Note: entry deadline is Tuesday, November 7th at 1:00 p.m.

Fees

The entry fee will be $25 per CX team, $15 per LD debater and $10 per IE entry.  Fees are due as based by original entry.  After November 7 at 1 p.m., a $30 drop fee will be assessed in addition to the entry fee.  Drops made on the day of the tournament will be $50.  All fees must be paid before the tournament begins. Please do not mail the checks. Bring them with you. PO’S WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Checks should be made out to: BHS Activity Fund.

Tournament Schedule

We have a slightly later start and a much earlier finish than most tournaments because we want this to be an easy start for novices and a chance for varsity to get home before midnight for a change :).

The tournament includes three rounds of debate and an awards ceremony (in the past, we have tried to do four rounds of debate, but some schools need to leave early and novices tend to get worn out with four rounds, so we are dropping to three and awarding 1st through 3rd places based on win-loss record and speaker points). IE’s will consist of a preliminary round and a final round.  Cross-entering in IEs will be at your own risk. Punctuality is important because we plan to finish as early as possible.  A concession stand will be located in the cafeteria with snacks, food, and drinks. There will be breakfast tacos in the morning and lunch food around midday. Restaurants in Boling are limited in number and they aren't exactly "fast" food. It is strongly advised not to leave campus for food since it could delay the schedule of rounds.

Extemp draw will be in the Gym Foyer.

Judges

Each school is required to provide one judge to be available at least one round past their students’ level of competition.
