Dear Colleagues:
I take great pleasure in inviting you to our 12th annual speech and debate tournament on Saturday, January 10, 2009.
We pride ourselves in giving your squads the most practice for the money. We will offer novice and varsity sections in L-D and CX.
We will have four preliminary rounds in Lincoln-Douglas and CX debate and break to semifinals or quarterfinals as entries warrant.
Special LD Debate Note: Since the announcement of the new UIL LD topic comes so quickly before the semester break, we realize that few debaters and coaches will feel adequately prepared to compete so soon after the beginning of the new semester. We will offer sample affirmative and negative LD cases on the new topic and a few minutes of coaching that debaters may use during the tournament. We don’t guarantee your debaters will win with the cases, but at least they’ll be up and debating on the new topic.
We will also have three full rounds in extemporaneous speaking and interpretation in which all contestants will compete. The third round will be a blind finals. Speakers with the lowest cumulative ranks in the first two rounds will compete in the same third section to determine the top six finishers. All other contestants will receive another round of practice.
Students may enter one extemporaneous speaking and one interpretation event or L-D and one extemporaneous speaking event.
All prelims and elimination rounds in L-D and I.E.s will be held at Blanco High School.
Policy debaters may not cross-enter.
The varsity cx debate tournament will be held at the Blanco Middle School. The novice cx debate tournament will be held at the Blanco Elementary School. Please register first at the high school and receive directions to the other two schools.
