Given the bureaucratic processes involved in depositing money involving a special event at our school, it is very difficult for us to collect and process fees in the weeks following the tournament. Thus, we must strictly enforce a nuisance fee for checks that arrive after registration. A fine totaling twenty-five percent of the school's total fees will be assessed and invoiced if payment is not provided at the tournament. We apologize for our inflexibility with this rule, but our hands are tied given late payments by several schools over the past four years.
There is a $25 nuisance fee per drop or change on the day of the tournament.
Please note that our desire to provide a large, high-quality tournament despite time constraints necessitates a tight schedule. Thus, the tournament will not only enforce a forfeit rule for competitors, but also assess fines for judges who do not arrive on time for rounds.
Location. The Bronx High School of Science is located at 75 West 205th Street, Bronx, NY 10468. When using GPS or online mapping aids, please use the address 75 Bronx Science Boulevard.
Registration. Registration is entirely online at Joy of Tournaments. Registration will open on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at midnight. Registration must be completed before noon (Eastern Standard Time) on Friday, September 24, 2010. We anticipate that registration will fill far, far earlier than that. Please register early. Fees will be set on September 24. Given the high cost of our food (which is provided at no additional charge), our judging pool (which consists of many critics who are flown in at the tournament's expense), and our trophies (which are gorgeous!) this is not negotiable.
On Friday, October 15, 2010, registration will begin at noon and will take place in the school's auditorium. Contestants not registered by 2:00 PM may not be scheduled for the first round. Make all checks payable to "The Bronx High School of Science," with "Debate" indicated in the memo area.
Hospitality. As part of our hospitality program, "Tastes of the World," the families of Bronx Science team members will provide complimentary dinner on Friday and complimentary meals throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. Each meal will feature a different style of food -- Italian, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Indian, and so on -- with vegetarian and vegan options available. Details will be released as the tournament approaches. We are excited to announce a new parent steering committee for this particular part of our event.
Hotel. A courtesy shuttle bus will be provided to transport individuals to and from the tournament hotel and school on Friday night, on Saturday morning, on Saturday night, and on Sunday morning.
The 2010 tournament hotel is again the Hampton Inn White Plains/Tarrytown, which is located at 200 Tarrytown Road in Elmsford, New York. The hotel's phone number is (914) 592.5680. We have secured a special rate of $114/night+tax, which is incredibly reasonable for New York area hotels. The booking code is BBD (Big Bronx Debate/Bronx Science Debate).
