Dear Forensic Director:
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to the Sixth Annual Golden Desert Invitational Debate Tournament on the campus of the University of Nevada – Las Vegas February 3-5, 2012. Dr. Jacob Thompson, director at UNLV, and I pledge to offer debate competition at the highest level, fees that are reasonable, excellent hospitality to students, coaches, and judges, and a tournament run as fairly and equitably as possible.
Registration will take place from 11 am – 1 pm February 3, in the lobby of Greenspun Hall at the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs. For those schools in transit February 3 and who have no changes and owe no late or change fees, phone registration will be available at the mobile number above 8:30 am-10:30 am.
In other folders on this website you will find specific information about the Golden Desert, including events offered, fees, schedules, and other information to make your visit with us as uncomplicated as possible. As the tournament date approaches, please check “Reminders” for updated information. Please be especially mindful of deadlines, especially for hotel registration, deadlines, and tournament fees. If you have any questions that aren’t answered on these pages, feel free to email me at the address above.
I want to remind everyone attending we must hold as closely as possible to the published schedule to accommodate our guests who have long travel distances on Sunday. We insist that you make your travel plans very carefully so as to participate in all scheduled activities. Going home early is rude and defeats the educational purpose of the tournament.
We are also pleased to announce that the TOC Advisory Committees have designated the Golden Desert as a qualifier at the quarter-finals level in Policy and Public Forum debate, semis in Lincoln-Douglas debate and top six in Congressional debate.
We look forward to welcoming you to sunny Southern Nevada in early February.
Ted W. Belch
