January 18, 2012 Dear Speech &
Debate Coaches Please accept our
invitation to attend the 32nd Annual Eldorado Gold Tournament at Eldorado High
School, Albuquerque, NM. The tournament is being held on February 10-11, 2012. We will be using
the Joy of Tournaments Software and all events and tabulations will be based
off the New Mexico Speech & Debate Association Handbook. We have an
ambitious schedule. We will offer all NFL events (PF, LD, CX, HI, DI, Duo, OO,
IX & DX) along with Expos, Impromptu and Oral Interp. Both LD & CX will
be bracketed in Novice & Varsity. We will offer a minimum of three rounds
of IE’s and four round of Debate and will determine breaks to Quarterfinals,
Semifinals & Finals as needed based on entries and performances. We will begin
with Student Congress on Friday (2 rounds as well as a Super Congress round). REGISTRATION We will be utilizing
the Joy of Tournaments website for registration. Please let me know if you
cannot access the website or need additional help. JUDGES We are working
very hard to find quality community judges. We have great support from our
booster club as well as the Eldorado staff however, we
will welcome and utilize any judges that you are willing to bring to the
tournament to help us out. STUDENT CONGRESS Congressional
Debate will run during the day of Friday, February 10th. We will be
accepting bills/resolution submissions from your school until Wednesday,
February 1st. After that time, we will no longer accept any bills/resolutions
so that we will allow enough time to copy & distribute to all competitors.
Legislation will be sent out to all competing schools by Friday, February 3rd.
There will be two preliminary rounds of Congress, with the top ranking
Representatives breaking to Super congress. The legislation will be divided
into three sections, each section being reserved for each round of Congress.
The docket will NOT be set prior to competition and nominations for Presiding
Officers will be taken from the floor by the Parliamentarian. Please email legislation
to carrie@rdaviscompanies.com. EXTEMP We will be releasing
topic areas for Extemp Speaking the week before the Tournament. Note: As per
the electronic policy, computers & other electronics will be allowed in the
Extemp Prep area however, there will be NO internet connection. Any file
downloads will have to be done prior to coming onto campus. Again, we are
excited to host our 30th annual tournament and look forward to
