2017 UIL District NSDA Big Questions Tournament
Dates: 4/22/2017

All Saints Episcopal School in Tyler, TX is proud to pilot a new event for the UIL NSDA District: Big Question Debates on Saturday, April 22. There will be four preliminary rounds (round four will be power-matched).  At minimum, we will break to semifinals, but if there are 16+ competitors, we will break to quarterfinals; the schedule is subject to change based on number of entrants. All the rules and explanation of the event can be found below. Visit speechanddebate.org/big-questions for more info.

The 2016-2017 topic is, Resolved: Science leaves no room for free will.

The 2017 National Tournament will include a Big Questions Debate capstone event featuring around 50 students. $20,000 will be awarded to the top 4 competitors.

In order to compete in this event, every judge and competitor that participates in Big Questions rounds is required to complete a brief, online survey. In order to ensure every judge and competitor completes the survey, all judges and competitors will need to complete the required survey immediately following round four.

As this is a NSDA qualifier, guidelines require debaters to compete individually, not with a partner.  The first place winner will qualify to NSDA Nationals.  Big Questions Debate also has discretion to invite any others competitors to the national tournament to compete and may send invitations to those individuals.

The final deadline to enter competitors and judges (without a missing judge fee) will be on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
