NFL Nebraska District Competition Information Dear Member Schools and Affiliates: This letter is to give you some specifications dealing with the Speech and Debate Qualifying Tournaments. Please remember to read your Chapter and District Manual found on the NFL website in the District Information tab under District Resources. Remember that BOTH speech and debate entries must be on the green sheet that is due on February 17th. You may download a pre-populated registration form on the [Entries] page of this website after you have registered your students. There are multiple options for turning them in: 1) via mail (e-mail IS NOT an option unless you scan the form) to Fred Robertson 2) in person at the Lincoln East Invitational on February 17th/18th to Jennifer Jerome or Fred Robertson. 3) or fax it attention to Fred Robertson at (402-715-6098) Along with the Green Sheet, you MUST have official copies of your students Oratories (even those listed on the reserve list). The oratories need to be turned in two weeks prior to the tournament, so those should be faxed to me at the above number or given to me or Jennifer at a tournament before Februrary 10. You can give these to Jennifer at Omaha Marian if that's most convenient for you. AND on the Green Sheet you MUST have Bibliographic information included for ALL Interp entries (even reserve entries). Remember also to consult the NFL District Manual to get the single-entry intent forms you will need to bring with you and turn in to me at the beginning of the speech districts tournament. This is important and you need signatures on these forms for students who are entered in more than one speech event and must choose which event they are designating to prefer should they qualify in more than one event. You also need to do this if you have a student who will be entered in one event in speech and one debate event. **There are several students who are double-entered in speech and you need a form for each of them with the signatures necessary. Here's a link to the NFL page where you can print an original. When in doubt, fill it out!: Single entry intent form. Along with the GREEN sheet, you MUST enter online at www.joyoftournaments.com and download a pre-populated registration form on the [Entries] page of this website after you have registered your students. Entry checks for Speech and Debate may be cut separately and brought to each tournament separately, or you can pay fees for both at speech districts. SPEECH: @ Bellevue West on February 24th and 25th. Entries Each school is allotted so many entries as per their degree strength (if you have questions about how many entries you have refer to the Chapter Manual which can be found on the NFL website). Remember that the quota is combined for speech and debate. Also, Policy/Public Forum/Duo only count as one entry. Each Individual Event entry will cost $25.00 (duo counts as one entry) If you think you’re going to have reserve entries PLEASE make sure they’re listed on the Green Sheet! Hospitality Each school will be charged an additional $30.00 for the food provided in the Judges/Coaches Lounge—this can be added to your entry check. This is separate from the Debate Hospitality Fee. Therefore, if you have Speech and Debate entries, you will owe $60.00 for your hospitality fee. You should include this fee with the total entry fee check, on the same check. Judging/Judges Each head coach is obligated to judge 3 rounds prior to being paid by the NE South District---after your 3rd round, they will pay $15.00 a round. We are not setting a judge quota this year (we don't want to set the bar low!). However, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, recruit judges. We will need them. The Nebraska South district will need them! Judges for speech, debate, or both speech and debate need to commit to judging by going online to WWW.TINYURL.COM/NEBQUALIFIERS and entering all their information on availability, restrictions, and preferences. When they submit, this will all go to a google document spreadsheet which our Nebraska NFL committee (and the Nebraska South NFL committee) can use. We would like to get all judges registered for speech qualifiers by February 10, and all debate judges by Feb. 17, so that we have two weeks advance notice of our judging pools. Hired judges will be paid $15.00 per round with a guarantee of two rounds at speech districts. Start Time:
Becca Hier, the speech coach at Bellevue West and chair of the Nebraska South NFL District, also sent me this information to help you with arrival on Friday, February 24 for speech districts: We can have students in the building at 2 pm, but they will have to stay in the gym until the bell rings at 3:20 pm. Rounds can start at 4. Committee is welcome to come in whenever. I'll meet everyone in the front office. Becca also gave me this information on hotels near Bellevue West if you plan to stay overnight with your students on Friday evening, February 24th: "I was able to work out some cheaper rates at the Holiday Inn Express and Candlewood Suites for the weekend. Rooms/suites at these properties will run $82 per night. Coaches should call 402-932-8144 and ask for Dale Jennings. He's the manager for both properties, so the coaches need to specify where they'd like to stay."
