23rd Annual Maine NFL District Tourney
Edward Little High
School
Saturday, February. 27, 2010
You are cordially invited to the 23nd Annual Maine NFL District Qualifier
to be hosted by Edward Little High School on Saturday February 27, 2010. The 2 top
competitors in each event (if sufficient entries are registered) will have the
opportunity of representing his/her school, district and state in the National
Tournament, where competitors will be “Jazzin’ it up” in Kansas City, Missouri
June 13 to 18, 2010.
The deadline for online registration
will be Thursday, February 11, 2010.
REMEMBER – Only students with at least 25 points on record with
NFL at least 7 days prior to the tourney are eligible to participate! Please be sure to log your points as soon after
the CFL qualifier as possible, or sooner if your school is not attending. In addition, schools must be paid in full with NFL prior to the District
Tourney. Schools with outstanding
bills to NFL (including new memberships) must pay them in full PRIOR to being
allowed to compete. You can make this
payment at the tournament by check or cash along with your registration fee. Any school unable to pay their bills and
registration fees at the District Tournament will not be allowed to participate.
Categories:
Speech Events - Original Oratory, Domestic Extemp, Foreign Extemp,
Dramatic Interp, Humorous Interp, and Duo Interp. Please consult your manual regarding sources. Please also have cuttings and source material
present in case of protest. Burden of
Proof will be on the student/coach as per NFL guidelines.
Lincoln/Douglas Debate – January/February Topic
Public Forum – February topic
Student Congress – 1 Senate and 1 House (if numbers allow for 2
chambers)
Judging Requirements:
As always, we all need to do our very best to ensure that the
judge pool is a competent and discriminating group with as much expertise as
possible! Judging requirements are 1 judge per 3 Speech entries and all
fractions thereof. Public Forum requires one judge per 2 teams, LD requires one judge per 2 debaters. Stuco
requires one judge per house division per school. Be sure to specify particular strengths on
your registrations, please.
I would like to continue the MFA rules for supplying unaffiliated
judges. I cannot at this time guarantee
a large pool of For-Hire judges. Please
help us all by fulfilling your stated requirements and by supplying the
requisite number of judges. If you have access to extra judges, I can make
arrangements for payment, but be sure to contact me to confirm this.
A reminder – Parents may NOT judge the event in which their child
is competing – absolutely no exceptions to this rule are allowed! BE AWARE OF THIS FOR DEBATE JUDGING
ASSIGNMENTS!!
Please also note that all judges are expected to be available for
ALL rounds of competition. Fines will be
assessed for any and all early departing judges. Speed and expediency are secondary to a
well-run tournament and to the best interests of our students.

Aurelie Bush (Yarmouth), Amy Trunnell (Maranacook)
and John Blanchette (Lewiston)
SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING THIS TOURNAMENT AND RESERVE ENTRIES:
It is critically important to enter as many people as possible to
allow 2 students to qualify, to improve our standing and hopefully get
ourselves to Green status next year.
PLEASE ask ALL of your NFL member students to attend the NFL qualifying
tournament as a ‘filler’ in another category if not competing in their primary
events. For example, novice debaters can
enter STUCO or Extemp. This not only
helps other Maine
students, but helps our District in general AND provides students with other
experiences.
Thanks everyone-
NFL District Committee
