Arizona District Tournament

National Qualifer National Speech and Debate National Tournament

March 23, 24, & 25, 2017

at Phoenix Country Day School

VITALLY IMPORTANT UPDATE!

Thanks to John Wolnisty, the Arizona District is now fully incorporated as a recognized educational non-profit entity, and our very own EIN!

For both the Congress Qualifier and the District Tournament, you need to make sure your checks and PO's are made out to:

Arizona District - National Speech and Debate Association.

If your school or district's accounting department requires it, please download the NEW W-9 and turn it in as soon as possible.

MY PLEA TO YOU:  PLEASE READ EVERY WORD OF THE INFORMATION PROVIDED HERE AND ON THE OTHER TABS AND CALL ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS.

It is vitally important for everyone to understand that this tournament, above all others, is absolutely the most tedious to prepare and run for everyone involved.  As coaches, YOU have so many details YOU must take care of if you want your students to be able to compete in this tournament.  The committee cannot and will not allow a school to enter and compete if the requirements have not been met.

The Arizona NSDA District Committee is pleased to invite you to this year’s national qualifying tournament.  We also want to take this time to thank the entire Mountain View High School community for stepping up to host this year’s tournament when we could not find a host.  We look forward to your participation in one of the most exciting and the most important tournaments of the year, and we eagerly anticipate the selection of the finest slate of competitors to represent our state at the NSDA Nationals in Birmingham, Alabama.

Your District Committee promises to work hard to provide you with the best tournament possible.  We want to hear about your concerns and help you with your questions, so please do not hesitate to contact us.

TOURNAMENT FORMATThe District Tournament will be a three (3) day event and follow the same format as last year.

The Debate events will continue to use the traditional up/down method: two losses and the debater or team will be eliminated from the tournament.

The Speech & Interpretation events will be tabulated by using the California Plan, which means that each event will require three (3) judges in each preliminary round and will have a pre-determined number of rounds based on the total number of students entered.
