Welcome to the Western Washington NFL quals tournament. The tournament will be held at Federal Way High School March 1-3, 2012. The school address is 30611 16th Av. S, Federal Way, WA. Registration and students will be located in the little theater and headquarters will be in room 609. Note: fees are payable to Thomas Jefferson Debate not Federal Way and not the NFL. If you have any questions about this tournament please email Andrew Buchan at andrew@teambuchan.com.
Registration: Joyoftournaments registration is due Friday, February 24th at 5:00pm. The green form and the letter of intent form (for double entered kids) with all signatures is due at check in. You may download a pre-populated registration sheet from the [Entries] tab of this website once you have registered your team. The download link will appear after you have begun the registration process. In addition, these forms can be found at www.nflonline.org. (Click this link for the form), or go to the website and click on tournaments, then district tournaments, then district chair forms, and district tournament registration. Fill this out, print it, and get the signatures.
School Quotas: Your school's total entries depends upon the number of degrees you have registered with the NFL. If you are unsure you can contact Andrew Buchan at andrew@teambuchan.com and he will give you your up-to-date totals. You may enter no more than four in any event (Congress is separate). Students may enter up to three events if one of them is congress, otherwise they are limited to two events. Students may only enter one form of extemp and one form of debate. If a student enters a duo event like policy the team may only enter a second duo event if they are the same team. Otherwise, students may only enter one duo event. Students are limited to one event at nationals so if they choose to enter multiple events at the district tournament they must submit the letter of intent form prior to competing.
Judging Quotas: Try to find as many neutral judges as possible. Only hire experienced adult judges for this tournament. An IE judge is expected to judge all rounds of the events. If he/she must miss a round it is up to the coach to find a replacement. If you are from a large school judges associated with your school will have very few panels they can judge. Instead we recommend that you hire neutral judges.
1 debate entry=1 judge
2 debate entries=3 judges
3 debate entries=4 judges
4 debate entries=6 judges
1 judge for every 2 speech entries
1 neutral scorekeeper for every 4 congress entries
Fees: Make all checks payable to Thomas Jefferson Debate. Checks should be turned in at registration; however PO's will be accepted. Make sure that the PO is addressed to Thomas Jefferson High School, 4248 S. 288th St. Auburn WA, 98001.

Script Check: Rule 17 of the NFL states: "Selections must be cuttings from published, printed novels, short stories, plays, or poetry. Recorded material or material from the internet that is not published and printed is prohibited. Scripts can be cut to fulfill the time requirements, however, adaptations and additions should be made for the purpose of transition. All words used from the script should be highlighted on a photo copy version which is immediately available at the tournament. In addition, any word changes (to eliminate profane language) and/or additions (for transition) must be indicated clearly in ink. A script cannot be altered to change the gender of a character. However, a female may play a male role and a male may play a female one." At registration all original scripts AND photocopied versions with any changes will be turned in to the district chair. Scripts will be returned upon conclusion of the tournament.
Original Oratory: A copy of the student's orginal oratory signed by the student and the coach will be turned in at registration. All quoted words must be highlighted with a quoted word count in bold type. This will be returned at the conclusion of the tournament. Students must carry a second copy of their oratory with them to rounds which is immediately available to judges.
