Greetings! I’m sure I will be passing along additional or corrected information later, but here are the preliminary details for the Heart of America NFL tournaments for 2012.
Please read ALL materials in EACH tab to ensure you are informed and are submitting all items needed. Topic areas for extemp submissions are in their own tab on the IE site. Topics are now DUE ON THE DAY REGISTRATION IS DUE. Ken Paden has graciously agreed to chair the extemp process and organize the topics submitted into 7 topic areas (6 if an extemp division has 4 and not 5 prelims). Registration for debate and IE entries, your extemp topics, and your congress legislation are due by FEBRUARY 20. FEES ARE DUE BY MARCH 2. All registration will be done online by Joy of Tournaments, as it was last year. Please note that after analyzing our costs for judges and awards, we are keeping entry fees the same as last year. Schools with 200 or more members and degrees have a $100 hospitality fee, 100 or more $75, 50 or more $50, under 50 $25. If you did not send your HoA District Dues in the fall, they are also now due at an increased rate of $50.00. Congress fees reflect funds to cover the cost of lunch and dinner for each person you have entered in Congress. The date of Congress WILL BE TUESDAY, APRIL 10, AT VAN HORN. Registration will HOPEFULLY be via Joy of Tournaments. The Judge Recruitment Form is also here for the purpose of you recruiting judges for each weekend. Shelia Holt is chairing; Shelia will be collecting all forms for data entry. WE WILL NEED 150 JUDGES TO RUN OUR TOURNAMENT in early prelim rounds to have 3 judges in each round FOR BOTH DEBATE & SPEECH. We have reduced the graduation requirement to “in their second year out of high school” so that we will each have greater success recruiting our alums. If we do not have adequate judge numbers, we will move to the Modified California Plan, as discussed in our fall coaches' meeting. The forms to get your graduating seniors into our judge database are also here. These may be mailed to me or to Shelia Holt or brought to registration. Have them put their name on the sheet and fill it out, or write “NO” by their name if they opt out of the database. Please let your SENIORS choose whether to be in our NFL judge database—please do not choose FOR them through your inaction. The recruiting you do now will help the 2014 NFL tournament run with more judges! In an email to me, please let me know what tournament job you would prefer if you have a preference. I may also draft you for a job you've done in the past :-) We will need tabulation staff, both on computers and to hand-tabulate; judges' ballot distribution; ballot sorting, stapling, and stuffing for debate; extemp draw help for Ken; awards ceremony set up; and general operations management. The committee has agreed to help me set up and take down each weekend. Whew—that’s it for now. If I have left something out or you need ANY additional information, please let me know!
