Colorado Grande NFL District
December 9, 2011
Dear Colleagues,
This shall serve as your invitation to our Colorado Grande
NFL National Qualifying Congress which will be held at Pueblo East High School
on January 27-28, 2012. Nancy Groves is
our site host, and she will provide me with a hotel list and with Coaches’
Meeting Luncheon details soon. I will forward those to you soon.
Legislation and P.O.
Intent to Run Letters: Please email me those no later than Thursday, January 5 at noon so that I can return a legislation packet to
you by the 10th. Remember
that legislation must be in correct format; please use the templates located on
the NFL site.
Deadlines: Anyone
who wishes to bring students to congress must do the following:
1.
email me at renee.motter@asd20.org by Friday, December 16, 2011
to let me know that your school intends to participate and to tell me
how many students you intend to have competing,
2.
register on Joy of Tournaments (http://www.joyoftournaments.com/nfl/ColoradoGrandeSC/)
by January 10 (I’ll let you know when registration officially opens on
Joy)—you will receive legislation when I receive your registration,
3.
snail mail your printed registration forms from Joy of
Tournaments as well as your signature sheets to me so that it ARRIVES to me by January 13. That form must have your signature, your
principal’s signature and each competing student’s signature. In addition,
provide signatures for any possible alternates so that you don’t have to
scramble! You must MAIL registration and
signature forms to me. This form can not
be faxed or emailed. I must have original
signatures! Remember, I must have
the READABLE signatures (NOT autographs!!) of each of your competitors as well
as your signature and your principal's signature. REMEMBER, you must list the competitor’s
name as it appears on the NFL web site!
Fees: You may bring your checks with you made out
to Colorado Grande NFL District. The fee for the entire Congress is $16.00 per
congress person. There will also be a
lunch fee for you and for any adult with you who will be attending the coaches’
luncheon meeting; I’ll send that information out with the hotel and luncheon
information.
Late Fees:
- If you are not registered
in Joy of Tournaments by January 10 and/or your signature form doesn’t
arrive by January 13, add $50.00 to your registration fee.
- If you drop anyone after
2:00 PM on January 25, add $20.00 per drop.
- If you drop anyone on
January 27, add $50.00 per drop.
- If you don’t bring your
correctly completed doubling forms to give to me at registration on January
28, add $50. NOTICE—Remember that the NFL now requires anyone who is going
to compete in the Congress Quals as well as the
NFL Event Quals to complete and turn in the doubling form BEFORE the beginning of
the first qualifying competition that they are participating in. This
means that your congress kids need to fill this out for congress as well
as their main event and their second event if they are going to double at
Nat Quals in March. This isn’t like the CHSAA form that you
can have the kids fill out on the way to competition as it MUST have your signature, your principal’s
signature, the student’s signature, and the student’s parent’s
signature.
Who May Be Seated: ONLY NFL members who are on record and who
have PAID memberships at least one week
prior to the opening of the congress may be seated. Therefore, it is imperative
that you get your students registered as members and that you get their fees
paid. The number you may seat is
dictated by the number of degrees you have on record one week prior to the
opening of congress. Get those points
updated. Below I have provided the chart of how many congress persons you may
seat. Remember that each school is
allowed to seat two senators but that the number of representatives is
determined by the number of degrees your school has on record. By sending new points in now you may continue
to increase that number up until January 20 at 2:00 p.m.
Schedule for the
Congress: Registration will be held
from 12:30 until 1:00 p.m. with Session I opening at 1:30. The committee is looking at doing a few
different things with the schedule this year since we can start earlier. I’ll send you a schedule as soon as we iron
things out.
Chart Listing number
you may bring:
# of degrees Senate House
1 – 20 2 2
21 – 35 2 3
36 – 55 2 4
56 – 75 2 5
76 – 100 2 6
101 – 150 2 7
151 – 200 2 8
201 – 250 2 9
*If you log onto NFLonline.org and then log on as your
school and then click on District Tournament Report on the left side of the
screen, the chart shows you exactly how many degrees you have on record, and it
shows you how many slots you have for NFL National Qualifying Districts and for
National Qualifying Congress.
Coaches Luncheon
Meeting: If you have any items that
you wish to have placed on the agenda, please email them to me. Remember, this is the meeting where you
announce to run for next year’s committee. Should you wish to run, yet you know
you will not be in attendance, please email me your candidate statement, and I
will read it for you so that everyone knows you wish to be considered!
Judging
Responsibilities: There will be two
Senates; one person from each school is seated in each Senate. The number of
Houses depends on the number of entrants. Schools must divide evenly.
This means that for any school with up to 75 degrees, they will have only one
member in a House. Those schools with 76
to 250 degrees will have two representatives in one or more Houses. No, you may
not put team members together for comfort reasons. It is imperative that we have coaches working
to ensure the quality of each chamber. Therefore,
each school must provide a parliamentarian and/or scorer for two of the three
sessions. Please email me the name(s) of the one who will work the two sessions
for your school. And yes, that person may be you. Your NFL committee is
still working on figuring out how our district will implement the new NFL rules
for congress which take place this year.
Supervision (a
reminder): We have been over this before, but a reminder never hurts. Remember,
a coach must be on site with your students AT ALL TIMES. This cannot be someone you simply ask to fill
in for you; it must be an OFFICIAL coach recognized by your principal which
includes a letter with an ORIGINAL signature indicating that your principal
approves that other coach (this may NOT be a parent) being in charge of your
kids. Additionally, because each
individual coach has responsibilities that must be fulfilled in order to run
the tournament, you must provide someone to work/judge the tournament; the
coach in charge of your students can NOT take on this responsibility as we have
to have enough people to run the tournament.
One other important
thought: We are limited in the
number of houses we can run based on the number of students we have
attend. Unless you want your kids
debating in rooms of 30, PLEASE plan to bring your full allotment of
slots. PLEASE make sure you fill your
allotment. Even if you have kids with
conflicts later on Friday and/or on Saturday, we can probably work something
out to help us out with numbers. I know
NONE of us want our kids trying to get speeches with rooms of 30, and I know we
ALL want to send as many kids to Nationals as possible.
