Dear Forensics Colleague: 

            The Southeast High School Forensics Program invites you to attend the KNIGHT’S WINTER JOUST on Saturday February 11th, 2012.  We will once again be offering great competition in Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum and Policy Debates, as well as Student Congress.  Please read over the invitation and call or e-mail if you have any questions.  

            We are also pleased to offer the 15th annual Ethos-Logos-Pathos award to the individual debater attending our tournament who best displays those three interrelated characteristics as elected by the coaches and judges in attendance. 

ENTRIES ARE DUE BY 6:00 p.m. ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 7th, 2012.

Drop fees will be assess for drops made after Wednesday, February 8th at 6pm.

EVENTS AND RULES

OPEN POLICY- Due to numbers, both varsity and novice divisions will be combined. They will follow the two-person, 8-3-5 format and will debate the current national resolution.  Prep time will be 8 minutes per team per round.  Each division will feature four rounds, powered after Round 2.  Breaks as entries allow.  As the division is open, there will not be topic limits for novices enforced.           

VARSITY AND NOVICE LINCOLN DOUGLAS DEBATE – We will use the January/February resolution. Both novice and varsity divisions will feature five rounds, breaking to Quarterfinals, with four minutes prep. We will power match after the second round.

OPEN PUBLIC FORUM DEBATE – We will use the February topic. We will offer five rounds, breaking to Quarterfinals, and we will power match after second round.   

STUDENT CONGRESS – Numbers will dictate the number of houses, and if we seperate varsity and novice.  Legislation will be available for download from www.hhsdebatenebraska.com/congress.  Legislation will be available after February, 1.
 

ENTRY FEES 

                        $25 per policy debate team                     $20 per Lincoln Douglas entrant            

$15 per Congress entrant                       $20 per Public Forum team 

JUDGES 

Debate:           You must provide one judge for every two LD, PF, or CX entry (or part thereof).  Also, if you have names of additional judges, we would be happy to hire them if you provide us with their restrictions. Make every effort to cover your entries, as we have a limited number of hired judges available. Hired tournament judges are $125 in all divisions.                                                           

CONCESSIONS 

            Concessions will be on sale throughout the tournament in the Commons area.  A well-stocked lounge will be available for judges and coaches.

AWARDS 

Awards will be given to finalists, and semifinalists in all divisions, as well as quarterfinalists in PF and LD.  Speaker awards will be given to the top three individual speakers in all divisions of debate.  In Congress, awards will be given to the top six in each house.  The elected presiding officer of each house will also receive a gavel.  Sweepstakes awards for the top three teams overall.

The fifteenth annual Ethos-Logos-Pathos Trophy will be awarded to the debater from any division who best represents these three interrelated characteristics of the consummate debater. Coaches and judges at the tournament vote.
