Dear Forensics Directors and Students,
The Duke University Debate Team is excited to invite your team to attend the Fourth Annual Blue Devil Classic, to be held at Duke University in Durham, NC on Saturday and Sunday, February 4-5, 2012.
After a huge success at last year's two-day event, we will continue to host competition in the following formats: Policy Debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, Congressional Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking, Dramatic Interpretation, Original Oratory, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Impromptu Speaking, and Oral Interpretation.
We are happy to announce the following additions to this year’s tournament:
- 2 days of competition, with 6 guaranteed preliminary rounds in all events
- Elimination rounds beginning at the quarterfinals level
- 10 total events
- Multiple entry opportunities for most students
- Supplementary Debate for non-advancing students
Our team is thrilled to continue to expand out tournament, and we want to make it a unique and enjoyable experience for everyone. To that end, we will provide high-quality and unique trophies to the top six finishers in each event, we are working with the Duke Admissions Office to offer campus tours and information for students interested in learning more about Duke University, and, time permitting, we will showcase Parliamentary Debate rounds to introduce interested students to our style of collegiate debate.
While expanding to a multiple-day event, our team is additionally working hard to build the profile of the Blue Devil Classic. To that end, we are happy to offer what we consider to be competitive entry fees.
All registration will take place on www.joyoftournaments.com. We ask that you please complete your initial registration by Tuesday, January 24th, so that we can adequately estimate entries and room requirements. You will be able to add and drop through Monday, January 30th without fees or complications. After that time, drop fees will take effect.
All of the members of the Duke Debate Team are looking forward to a competitive tournament, and we will work hard to ensure an enjoyable and spirited tournament experience. Please direct any questions, concerns, or comments to bluedevilclassic@gmail.com or 919-667-6108 (Ajeet's Cell Phone number)
