Dear Speech and Debate Coaches:
You and your team are cordially invited to Marquette High School’s annual Speech and Debate Tournament on February 17th and 18th. Events offered will include Original Oratory, Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking, Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Radio Broadcasting, Prose/Poetry, Storytelling, Student Congress, and Regular and Champ divisions of Policy, Public Forum, and Lincoln-Douglas Debate. We will be able to accept a maximum of three entries in each individual event and two in each debate division. Extra entries will be provided on a space available basis, with priority given to those entries received earliest.
Trophies will be awarded to the top six finishers in each event, and to the top six speakers in each champ debate. Sweepstakes trophies will also be awarded to the top three schools. Please provide us with your entries by February 10th If you are planning on entering the tournament it is essential that we have your entry early to fulfill MSHSAA requirements. Furthermore, we will begin allowing students into the tournament from the waitlist at 5 pm on February 10th. Of course you will be able to make any changes necessary to your entry on Joy of Tournaments after that date until the Friday of the tournament (unless divisions are full of course).
As in previous years, we anticipate having the best competitors from across Missouri, Illinois and Kansas in attendance. In order to help everyone prepare for State and National qualifiers, we will be district coding in debate events to ensure that your students will not face teams (as much as is possible) from your MSHSAA or NFL district during debate prelims. Further, we have a tab at the top of joy of tournaments webpage listing some local accomodations and rates for the weekend.
Please note that sweepstakes points will be deducted for each entry dropped after 12:00 P.M. on Friday, February 17th.
We are pleased to be continuing the I Speak for Others award. This annual award will be given during the award ceremony. Please look to the I Speak for Others tab on the joy of tournaments website for details on how to nominate one of your students.
