Columbia City High School Speech and Debate

Dear Coach,

 

You and your students are cordially invited to the Columbia City High School Speech Tournament February 20, 2010.  Entries are due by 4 pm February 15, 2010 @ www.joyoftournaments.com.  

 

Final registration for events at the high school will be in the HS library 7:00 am-8:15 am.  Final registration for events in the middle school will be in front of the middle school library 7:00 am -8:15 am.  Round I begins at 8:30 in both buildings. Extemp draw will begin at 8:30.

 

Varsity competition will be offered in all IHSFA solo events. 

 

 All events will have three rounds and a final

    

IHSFA doubling rules will be followed in the tournament with these exceptions:

 

Impromptu may only double in extemp.

Duo teams may double in both memorized and scripted

Extempers may double in foreign and domestic extemp if they do NOT double in impromptu.

  Extempers may not double in OO

Doubling must be attempted at the contestant's own risk. 

 

ENTRIES:

    Limit of five per event.

    Limit of 36 per team

 

DROPS:  May be picked up prior to Round One but will not count for sweepstakes points.

 

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:

    BROADCASTING

Students must bring an original 1 minute commercial for Soup (must be for a fictitious company); an original 1 minute editorial about credit cards; a two minute newscast. All items in the newscast must be within three days of the tournament.  Round I is the Commercial; round II, the editorial; Round III news; Round IV on-the spot.

 

    EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING-Topics will be selected from NEWSWEEK, TIME,  The Economist, and Christian Science Monitor, Sept 1 to date. There will be two 30 minute prep periods.  The second draw topic will be used in the final.

 

DISCUSSION-Will go three rounds and a final using the 2010 sectional topics announced by IHSFA.

 

 

*****ALL EXTEMP, IMPROMPTU, RADIO, AND DISCUSSION ROUNDS WILL BE HELD AT INDIAN SPRINGS MIDDLE SCHOOL.   (Just south of town on State Road 9 at 1692 South SR 9.)

We will not have shuttle buses between buildings.

 

The North East Indiana NFL Congress will be held at Indian Springs Middle School at the same time.  North East District NFL Chapters need to enter at least one person per school in congress.  Some judges will be asked to judge congress. 

 

We will have food for sale in both buildings for lunch.

 

There will be a judge/coach lounge in both buildings.

 NO SMOKING ANYWHERE ON SCHOOL  GROUNDS !!!!!!

 

 

JUDGES: One judge for every five student entries (six entries = two judges).

 

WEATHER:  CALL Bob IF  WEATHER CONDITIONS SEEM QUESTIONABLE.

 

AWARDS:  Eight ribbons will be awarded in each event.  Students earning ribbons will be counted for sweepstakes unless they are picked up drops.  Sweepstakes trophies to the top ten schools.  We will use the 8,7, 6 formula

 

(All tournament awards will be presented at the high school.)

 

ENDING TIME:  We would estimate awards beginning at 4 PM.
