January 2012
Dear Colleague:
Harper College is pleased to invite you to “The Litrenta Triangle at Harper College” our Freshman/Sophomore Individual Events & Pari Debate Tournament on Friday & Saturday, February 17-18. There are a few changes from last year, so please read this invitation carefully. Changes made are in italics. A novice is a student with less than four full semesters of college competition experience. Students with junior/senior status can enter Reader’s Theatre, ParLi and Group Communication.
We will be using the Joy of Tournaments online registration www.joyoftournaments.com/il/harper. This is the same site you will use to register for Phi Rho Pi nationals. So once you register for our tournament, your school and your students’ information will be easily accessed for any tournament that uses Joy.
We are pleased to once again be offering Group Communication. This event allows students to gain experience in small group work. The feedback from past years has been extremely positive. We hope that your students will give the event a try. Please look over the rules; this year’s finals should be exciting. If you have any group exercises that you believe would work well for this event, please forward them to me.
We are offering 6 preliminary rounds of parliamentary debate and PHI RHO PI STYLE OUT-ROUNDS (SEE EVENTS). There are quite a few entry restrictions on debaters so please read this invite carefully.
Once again, we have teamed up with our Art Department to create our trophies. The student artists have been paid a stipend equal to what we would have spent on traditional trophies. The pieces are complete and are true works of art that I am confident your students will treasure.
“The Litrenta Triangle at Harper College” is a Green Tournament. Joy of Tournaments will allow us to to post results online. We will also conserve paper wherever we can (half sheet size ballots, posting schematics instead of copying them, eliminating master ballots and printing back to back whenever possible). Additionally, our final round of extemporaneous speaking will be the “Green Round.” All of the questions will center on environmental issues. Look for a “green” slant in Parli & Impromptu too.
We look forward to seeing you the weekend of February 17-18. If you have any questions, please give us a call.
Sincerely,
Jeff Przybylo-Director
